It's not quite dead yet.

I'm going to blame it on the drummers. Only partially kidding.

While Taylor Swift is definitely Pop- and I did just throw some subtle shade on pop a bit earlier in this thread, I think she is an objectively great songwriter.

Jimmy Buffet wrote a great song....'Living and Dying In 3/4 Time"
Look it up...It says it all.
Also check out his song "Nautical Wheelers"......We here in Florida seem to approach life in 3/4 time
A Florida Guy.

Still lots of 3/4 to enjoy or 6/8 if you like that feel. I've got tunes in 7 that I like, of course that's with my jazz band.

I think D-utim is saying Mr. Bo killed the waltz. Probably during his disco phase.

You can't waltz to rock music. And you can't rock out in 3./4 - almost no one knows how to waltz any longer. You don't see it much in Country which is a greater surprise as it is a better fit there than in rock. Songwriter stuff fits 3/4 well and if you stop and listen critically in the right genres, you will find a fair amount of it about.

Now 6/8 - try to find that anywhere other than the Celtic genre. And some of the weird stuff like in Greek and Balkan music or flamenco: that's virtually completely missing elsewhere.

Pop of course uses the 4/4 formula robbing pachabel of his Cannon chord progression: 1, 5, 6, 3, 4,1,4,5.
the people like Cannon in D.
6/8 is jig time - Diddle dee, diddle dee. . . Irish Washerwoman

3/4 is waltz time - Boom chunk chunk, boom chunk chunk. . . Tennessee Waltz

In Irish trad music, sometimes a 9/8 slip jig is played against a 3/4 accompaniment. The Butterfly

I love a good waltz.

Would The Millionaire Waltz by Queen be considered "rock music"?
How about Evangeline by The Band? or Rocket From The Crypt's Ditch Digger?

Or "Manic Depression". But these seem to be exceptions to the rule, and only a few rockers are in 3/4 time.
