This is very interesting. I am picking up a few ideas for songs I would have never thought of. Don't Be Cruel sounds like a good song for our acoustic trio. Thanks for everyones input and I would love to hear more. One thing I have always thought would be very cool would be to do a Beatles medley. Maybe one verse from about four different songs. Anyone here on the board do anything like that?

I think most Beatles tunes are a good bet and I've always liked medley's of them since hearing Chet Atkins do them years ago, and now lots of others like Tommy Emmanuel.

While this thread seems to be geared more to singers, I do only instrumentals and this medley of Beatles tunes is fun to play and is received well, though about any combination would work well I think.

"Lady Madonna"/"In My Life"/"And I Love Her".

do you all play to "older" audiences or are these tunes just timeless and still the best? i notice that there aren't alot of "new" classics on your lists.

Originals only here too. Red John turned out to be a "favourite" (a wee bit to my suprise).

The upbeat stuff always seems to get more of a reaction in bars.

Sympathy For The Devil
Feelin' Alright

always seem to do well although having not played it in at least a decade we stuck in

You Don't Mess Around With Jim

the other night and it really went over well.

Medlies can break out anywhere with us. We got a little Am groove going the other night and went from "Sandman" into "Last Dance For Maryjane" into "Ohio" back into "Sandman". We have a couple of medlies we plan but most of the time they just happen. Fortunately my playing partner is really good staying with me as I wander from song to song.

I may be the only gigging musician in my area that doesn't play Wonderwall...which is sort of why I don't play it.

Default I like to keep it varied...

...lots of variety is the key to crowd pleasing for me.

Never Gonna Come Back Down - BT with Mike Doughty (techno done acoustic)
No Woman No Cry - Bob Marley
Angeles - Elliott Smith
Do You Realize - The Flaming Lips
3rd Planet - Modest Mouse
Don't Let it Bring You Down - Neil Young
Fasination Street - The Cure
Grey Ghost - Mike Doughty
Ace of Spades - Motorhead
When the Lights Go Out - The Black Keys

and it goes on and on...until I play an original and they all just look at me funny, hahaha!

Is that the Dylan or the Hendrix version? People look at me funny when I do the Dylan style [with harp]. Most don't even know he wrote it.
