Default Stage Clothes

How do you dress or adorn yourself differently (or not) when you are performing in public?

My "go to" for a long time when I was doing a lot of solo stuff was jeans, a white cotton banded collar shirt, and one of several leather vests.

K.I.S.S. method....

When i was playing in a Country band we played an opening for Sawyer Brown I think it was. I got there early to check my gear and tune. I carried my stage clothes and was wearing a T-shirt and some cut-off jeans. The musicians were just milling around on stage, we hadn't even seen the two women who fronted the band yet when the stage manager came up and said, "Pick up your instruments, we're going NOW!" "Huh!? I gotta change!" "No time. Lets go!"

So we started the opening riff of the first song, the two ladies magically appeared and off we went. And now, thirty-five years later, I have some wonderful videos of me playing a professional gig in a T-shirt and cut-offs while everybody else is properly dressed. It looks like the real bass player hadn't showed up and they grabbed some guy out

Always dress one step above the audience was the rule I was taught and it has never failed me.

Typically I wear nice jeans, dress shirt, sports jacket with pocket square, nice shoes and hat like a nice fedora (not a baseball hat!).

Personally at home: Whatever I grab, usually dressed like a bum.
Stage: Nice shirt, clean jeans, nice shoes, some silly hat. I even shave and comb my hair.
Dream: If I ever make it to be playing in a jazz band, I'll be wearing a tie for the first time in my life.

+1 to this. People should be able to tell you're the band/performer.

And it even worked for those gigs at the nudist colony!

Mexican Wrestlers Outfit, with the mask.

it's epic!

Actually no..

Usually jeans, a decent Tshirt kind of thing, and a black cotton blazer.

Seems like a solo acoustic artist should be using Hawaiian shirts…..works for me. Never been asked to leave, at least….

This! About the only time I wear "slimfit" jeans instead of straights, and I keep three or four bright but smart shirts, and my "special" boots (from Screwfix).
