Default Another Side Bending Question

I've planed my sides (EIR) to just under 1/8". But I'm reading that that may be too thick. What is your suggested thickness on EIR sides?

I will be bending over a heated pipe, which I've done in the past to some sides in the past. The guitars never turned out, though. This time around, I want to get things right before I mess up. It's been a few years, so I need to re-think what I did and how I should do things.

Thanks!

Most people use around 0.08" for EIR sides, I've never used EIR myself.
Thinner bends easier, but I've never gone thinner than 0.06", and that was with bloodwood.
EIR should bend fine at anything less than 0.10".

While we are on the side bending question (I hope the OP doesn't mind) any good tips for bending cocobola? What temperature would be good for rosewoods?

EIR is one of the easier woods to bend. I generally thin to about .085"and anything in the area should not give you any problem.

0.085" is what I use for EIR.
For cocobolo, I would thin to about 0.075".

So, two things... 1/8" is .125". Looks like around 5/64 is where I need to be. Still have a hard time thinking in decimal inches!

5/64 = .078125

Cocobolo usually bends pretty easily. If you have trouble, more heat and less water...

edit: corrected spelling!

Where does the 'cocobola' spelling originate?
All legitimate references I know about use 'cocobolo'.

Yeah the fingers play dirty tricks especially when I don't have my reading glasses on.

I just wondered because 'cocobola' is a common usage, but never from official sources.

It rhymes better with Ebola, was out raking leaves and I had a thought of taking a picture with me in a Tyvex suit, latex gloves, mask and eye protection with a heading No, No. Cocobola, not Ebola!

Kind of an in joke as I am theoretically employed with a hospital but I am off work due to my skin becoming sensitized. I was joking with the guys I work with they will let me come back to work to look after the isolation rooms as I am less valuable now and if they are going to loose someone I would not be much of a loss. I got tagged with the name Ebola Boy now.

Actually because of my skin sensitization problem I will be wearing the above getup when sanding the cocobolo pieces I have.

Lose. 'Loose' is an adjective that rhymes with 'goose'.

I know, it is me not wearing my glasses and **** fingers bouncing on the keys. Usually I hit a neighboring key and spell check catches them, but without it catching a miss spelt word and without my glasses I miss stuff.
