Gone over to Martin Monels on most of my acoustics, my wife prefers D'A PB's on hers; been using Chromes flatwounds on all my electrics for the last 50 years - consistent, (relatively) inexpensive, and easy to find...

I seem to recall using Martin strings when I started out (my first 'proper' solid top guitar in the late 80s was a Martin/Sigma DR28H which I still have) but have used D'Addario PBs for as long as I can remember. (I make an exception for the odd set of (coated?) Lowden lights for my F23 when they do their occasional buy-one-get-one-free offer and really like them.)

I'm almost embarrassed to admit it on here, but for a long time I used Custom Lights (11-52) as I found them easier to play - it's only in the last few years that I've discovered the jobs of a proper, professional set-up and made the switch to Lights on all my steel strings.

It's not something I have the aptitude or inclination to do myself, but the luthier I was introduced has transformed several guitars for me in a way that I had no idea was even possible.

Better late than never

Angus

Most certainly!
Not (by far LOL!) as experienced as some on this forum, I started with the uncoated EJs. Booming sound but loses its crispness very quickly.
Like some mentioned in the thread I tried the XS. Wow! Almost as loud and full sounding as the uncoated ones and seem to last forever!
Tried a couple of other ones including a Martin Lifespan 2.0 and another one by Martin that I do not remember but was not so impressed.
I use Savarez for my classic.
Nice vid!

Cannot stand the EJ16s.
The XS phosphor bronze are the best coated strings I’ve ever played.

Go figure!

I've quit using them often but then come back.

There is something reliable about them. They behave as expected.

I'm about to go back to EJ26's for the summer I think.

In the winter I try other strings.

Nice video. It did not cover 1970s when Darco was Martin's division. Interesting how much did it help Martin's string business.

I used their PB 12-53s.

Lately I tried Martin MA545 "in betweens" 12.5-55 and love them. I don't think D'addario makes this gauge strings. Not too many brands do.

Nice ...thanks for posting that!

Long time D'Addario XL user, like decades. Elixir PBs for acoustics, though, as I like what they bring to the table, but that could easily change if prices change. Great history!

Love D'addario strings. use a fair amount of them on some of my guitars and things with strings. EJ16/17 on a few acoustics. EJ14s on 2 of my OMs ( bluegrass strings). EJ74 on mandolin. EJ61 on my banjo. my favs for acoustics are newtone masterworks though. D'adds customer service is very good, had a faulty clip on tuner and they sent me a new one easy peasy, I do like their clip on tuners ( not a fan of my snarks, but the peterson strobo is my fav) The player points through D'add are a nice reward- usually end up with 3 free sets a year.
