Default How about a little photography?

I chimed in on one of Guys threads last night and noticed he was a photographer as well. I've not been around much and have not been playing my guitar at all, in fact the only reason I've been on the AGF as of late is I'm selling my Huss so I can do more stuff like this. I thought I'd show you guys what I've been up to.

We finally were going to get some rain today and I've been waiting for some cloud structure to get some shots for the cover of next months magazine. I was headed over to the business district to get some shots of a couple of the large building in one of the major office parks.

I drive by this farm everyday as it is only a couple of minutes from the house, as I was driving past I saw the storm building behind the farm and figured I'd stop and get some decent shots. I've always wanted to shoot because of the wagons and old house/structure in the background. Well the obvious bonus was there was some lightning going on so I set up the tripod and was fortunate to get the timing down on this shot.

Normal lighting shots you can shoot with a very slow shutter speed so the chances of nailing a shot are pretty good. Here it was daylight so I had to hope for multiple bolts and a quick finger.

Here is the shot with nothing more than levels, curves and a little USM. There is no "fake" or redone sky. The only other thing I did was lighten to small dust spots that were on the sensor.

#1 No Crop - I'm having to learn to back off my shots like this so I can have plenty of room to get the crop right in post.

#2

Here is the same shot but cropped a bit different and I took 5 exposures and ran them through photomatix.

#3 The cropping on the original shot just gives so many options. Here is just the wagon.

#4 Here is the wagon in B & W - Nothing more than desaturated as I did my normal channel mixer attempt and could not get it any better than this.

great shots chris!

i've never quite got around to full-time photography in my lifetime although i have worked for a city magazine like you said you do.

i asked to be a photographers mate in the navy but they needed radiomen more, so i guess that set my course in life.

Very nice work. I'm waiting for my new Canon digital SLR to arrive this week. Taking snapshots of my grandkids has gotten me reinterested in serious photography again.

I don't know why, but the black&white shot attracts me more.

I want a digital SLR really really really bad! But I think I'm going to have to wait until at least the holidays or next summer. That is a really cool picture.

You first need to host your picture somewhere on the Internet. There are many picture-hosting services out there. I use www.photobucket.com.

Once you have your picture hosted, you simply either paste the HTML link for folks to click on to go to the picture, like this
or you post the IMG tag into the body of your post (using the insert picture tool in the post editor) to get the picture to appear in the post, like this:

Ha, figured you guys would like that picture. It's a carryover from Cheap Post Central, someone asked for a picture of an aardvark (or hairless armadillo?) and, well, there you go...

Same here. I think it's the textures on the wagon. They seem to stand out a bit more on the b&w.

Nice job getting a daylight lightning shot!

I'll jump in and post some of mine (bunch of stuff here: Pork's Smugmug Page) Here's two of mine in the color vs b&w vein. I prefer the b&w here as well:
