The Good and Bad of Taylor 414ce | I Found a Good one
Every time I pick up a Taylor Guitar there is always a chance it sounds dull and dead. My guess is this because of the manufacturing process. They don't voice each guitar top to fit the guitar; that would be very inefficient. That's not a bad thing but it does mean you have to be picky when choosing a Taylor. Some times it all just comes together right, and you'll find one with a really balanced tone. I recently picked up this 414ce Custom. It's a good one. In this video I set it up with 12-53 XS strings but subbed out the 53 for a thicker 56 gauge for drop tunings.

I've been very picky when buying my Taylor's. They're definitely not all the same. I'm glad you found a good one!

I played 3 before I found one that I can only describe as magic. Everyone that hears it tells me when I get ready to sell they want it. I’ve never played a dull one, but this one is special. Just luck I guess.

A friend of mine has one that sounds great. I was with him when he was trying them out to buy one and there were 3 in the shop. 1 sounded average, his sounded great and another was really thunderous. It took me a minute to figure out that the 3rd one was actually tuned a half step down. Tuned up to E it sounded about the same as the one my buddy took home.
