Up for sale is my Emerald X20-7 - a seven-string, fan fret carbon fiber guitar.
I’ve really tried to get on with the 7th string, but have reluctantly come to the conclusion that it’s just not for me. I’ve discovered that I love fan frets, however, so I’m selling this to help finance a new 6-string fan fret Emerald. I had this guitar made in 2019. It’s a stock X20-7, except for two details - it has gold tuners (Gotoh 510s, 18:1), and an unusual finish. Rather than the typical single colour, I opted for amber gloss on the top and headstock, and black gloss on the back, sides, and neck. It has a pin-style bridge, and the matte finish fretboard as used on current models. Stainless steel frets, like all Emeralds. It does not have a pickup installed. It sounds terrific, and is really well-balanced across all 7 strings. The bottom B is rich and full, and the treble end is particularly pleasing - to my ears, at least ![]() It’s in great condition. It’s only left my house twice since I got it. I’m not going to claim it as mint - that would be ridiculous, as it’s three years old and has been played, so there has to be a blemish somewhere ![]() Scale length is 25.5” treble, 27” bass. Nut width is 2.0”, with string spacing of 1.75”; string spacing at bridge is 2.55”. Action is spot-on to Emerald’s spec of 2.3mm (7th) and 1.7mm (1st). There is plenty of height at the saddle should a lower action be desired. Official blurb and specs can be found here: https://emeraldguitars.com/models/x20-7/ Caveat: strings can be a challenge. There are very few 7-string sets to be found for acoustic guitars. After much experimentation, I came up with a simple solution - I use a standard set of John Pearse Lights, with an additional .068” single string for the 7th. Currently, it’s strung with JP Pure Nickels; I’ll include a set (6 + 1) of JP PB strings with the guitar. Guitar comes with standard Hiscox hard shell case. Brand new, an X20-7 to this spec would be $2795. Price for this one is $2200 + actual shipping cost*. PayPal, please- no F&F. *I’d much prefer a local sale if possible, and will happily drive a reasonable distance from Minneapolis to help facilitate that. Photos below are a mixture of Emerald’s ‘glamour’ shots, and my own. I’ll be glad to provide more of any detail that might be required. Weekend bump.
I wish I could say I’d been inundated with enquiries about this lovely instrument, but I haven’t had a single one. Maybe there’s a message there ![]()

Just in case anyone has stumbled into the New Year, and realized that 2 + 0 + 2 +3 = 7, here’s a guitar to match your math

One last bump.
I think I’m being told to keep this lovely guitar - I’ve had a couple of nibbles, but otherwise a remarkable lack of interest. Is there no-one out there with an extra finger? ![]()
