I just stumbled on this video. If you like Peter Paul and Mary, I think you'll enjoy this. The passion for the music is on full display and the harmonies are fantastic.

Jeez, that was good.
It's impossible for me to keep my eyes off of Mary Travers. So dynamic, a born performer.

The first few minutes tells me I'll be watching this on the big screen today. Wonderful.
Thank you.

Ah the days of the great folk scare !! A Gibson "Folksinger" f-23 (?) recently discussed elsewhere, and a Martin D28-S 12 fret dread.
And, of course the days before the invention of the "scrunchy" for long hair. edit, the Gibson was used but not on this occasion so an unidentified classical - possibly a "Goya" Levin ??

For those who were not around during the Folk Revival of the late-1950s and 1960s I can safely say it was an amazing time to be on the planet. My Mom who was a big Weavers fan got me started and the first real LPs I owned were by Woody Guthrie and Leabelly which she had bought me off of Publisher's Clearing House. But my fondest memories date from later on starting in 1967 when I went to work for Lee Hays who sang bass with the Weavers and was the co-writer of "Wasn't That a Time" which appears early in the video. It actually wasn't much of a job - mostly keeping Lee company. But I got to hear all of his stories about being on the road and doing radio shows with the likes of Woody and Pete. And as a bonus he could get me any LP on the Verve label for free. But that song title does just about sum it up.

Awesome! A trip down memory lane here with my coffee, what a way to start the day. Thanks for that!
Some hilarious moments on stage there, and if you ever wondered if an audience was really listening, really paying attention ..... Here is that audience. I grew up with this music and know it really well but I was amazed at the energy and power in these performances. Wow. Turtle |
