Default Holy Cow! Help me decide on which wood to pick! Brazilian anyone?

Everyone loves pictures of wood, right? I need help deciding which wood to choose for a build. At first glance, this looks like amazing Brazilian Rosewood. I wanted to find a luthier who uses the wood of his country in my next guitar. What better place for Indian Rosewood than straight from India! I have a build in the Custom Shop area with an amazing luthier in New Dehli India. You can follow more of that thread here:

https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=523232

Yup, you heard that right, this wood is Indian Rosewood! Not the typical Indian Rosewood we are used to!

I'll let the pictures do the talking Which set do you like best?

They all have some nice visuals but those slabs in #3 will look amazing in my eye. Nice problem to have by the way.

Wow those are some nice sets.
I chose 5 but i would have chosen 3 if not
for that dark spot on the upper centerline .
I can't see it too well but it looks as though it could
potentially cause an issue in the future. Like cracking.
I can see how it might be hard to choose.
Our choices are of course subjective .
So pick the one that grabs you the most.
even if the numbers here say otherwise.
All those sets are going to look phenomenal .
And your right. Very Brazilian looking.

Thanks! set 3 in the poll or the set with the number 3 on it? I should have rearranged it!

Will do! Can't wait for this one!

For the pictures, the numbers on the wood are for the luthier and potential client (hint, if you want it )

For the poll, please vote on the order the wood is in. Sorry for the confusion!

Hi eric

I watched several luthiers working their way through the piles of wood on a group of tables at LMII's (an instrument supplier) area at one of the last Healdsburg Festival in Santa Rosa, CA, and not one of them selected wood without first checking several dozen pieces, tapping them, handling them, and checking the wood for properties which don't show up by simple cosmetics.

#3 in the order you have them on the page (it has 2 written in chalk). Stunning!

You can always hide blemishes with a partial inlay or creative backstrip like this :

Absolutely! Karan goes for tone first! And I wouldn't use a set that didnt' tap right or feel right in a luthier's hands

I think 3 and 4 kinda look like lung x rays, I don't think I would ever stop seeing that

I picked #1 but would have been #2 had it not been for the knot that looks like a mis-match in that area. I like the way 1 and 2 made me feel as I looked at them.

All except for the last two appear to be flat sawn crotch wood and I wouldn't use that to build any guitar. It's just far less stable than good quarter sawn wood.

I picked #6 because it will sound the best. Don't ask me how I know. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

I'm normally a straight grained kind of guy, but I really like Figured 2 (Maiden's hair) as it reminds me a bit of the set on my Goodall TBROM, and voted that way accordingly.

So it's Figured 2 (maiden's hair), then Straight 6 for me.
