Absence makes the heart grow fonder- JM-1000
I have lots of guitars but tend to settle on one and play it for a while. Been on the wood side with my McKnight, great guitar. Pulled out my JM-1000 last week after quite a absence, was thinking of making a UTube of one song but using three different guitars one on each verse and editing it as one song. See carbon along with wood etc. Put new strings on the JM-1000-BI and have had a great time with it. As before it sounds different in my ears for a hour or so because wood is stuck there, then my mind opens up to this clear wonderful tone. The setup it just perfect,(me sanding the saddle and Rainsong's build quality) and plays up the neck so well. It's a beast, been back in my hands all week!

Years ago I purchased a second hand JM1000 with the n1 neck. That guitar sounded amazing and I actually prefer the older Rainsong neck over the new one. Anyways, if that were the dreadnought, I probably would have kept it. I found the jumbo size uncomfortable which was a real shame as the rich tone and projection were fantastic! It is one heck of a guitar.

I actually find Jumbos more comfortable than Dreds when sitting down, the tight waists fit the leg, dreds can move around. The N2 I think works for me on the Jumbo, it's really full but it's a huge guitar. I love its not a cutaway. And the Black Ice takes away the "industrial look", best finish Rainsong does.

Steve... I was pleasantly surprised how easy the rainsong jumbos are to play... extremely
light and such a full sound. I was always an om guy but tried one locally and the sound just changed my view. My JM 1000 and 3000 are keepers....My 1000 has a unidirectional top that mellows the sound just slightly and imho the 3000 is the best 12 string I've ever played... well worth the search!!! |

Jumbo guitars are the great deceivers as far as comfort is concerned, at least sitting down. And the lightness of the Rainsong is just crazy for this huge thing. Lol

Got my "his-&-hers" JM1000/JM3000 set (bought 'em for myself, but my wife loved the 12 and kinda laid claim to it ) back in 2004, and they're not going anywhere either...

The JM-1000 (BI) is going to be my next guitar (Lord willing).
I'm glad to hear all the good things about it. I still haven't had a chance to play one, but I'm trying to get the Rainsong Dealer in Charlottesville to get one in.

I think there is some irony that the Rainsong I like the most is one of the ones they first produced? Not sure I know the first guitar style they sold but the JM-1000 must be one of them.

Hi Steve,
I have many guitars as well, so some of them will go in played for extended periods, which was the case with my custom Rainsong LA1-LE. For those not familiar with this model, it was part of a run of 15 guitars built for us with OM body, standard 14 fret neck, hybrid back and sides, unidirectional top, and a red abalone rosette indicating that it was an LA custom. This guitar pre dated the Shorty, and at the time I advertised it as the warmest Rainsong yet. The run sold out quickly, but I did manage to keep one, and that guitar went everywhere with me a for a few years. Well last night I decided to get reacquainted with this gorgeous limited, and man, I fell right back in love. The guitar just feels right, and the tone is just amazing. Were I limited to owning just this one guitar, I would not feel limited at all. Here it is in front of my OM-42. |
