Default NGD RainSong Shorty... photos added

Never having played, nor even hearing any CF guitar in person, I did a lot of research, listening to audio clips, watching/listening to review videos and reading what I could find about the various manufacturers.

I took a leap of faith and ordered a RainSong Shorty SSA from Ted and Helene at LA Guitar Sales. It arrived last Friday and much to my surprise, it really is a great sounding guitar! We were able to bond over the weekend...even with my post surgical rehabing left hand, we spent a good amount of time together.

It's tone is different than any wood guitar, solid or laminate, that I have ever played, or heard, but that does not mean it doesn't sound good. It sounds very good. It is loud, bright, crisp, very bell like throughout. Note separation and sustain are probably the two most notable differences from my wood guitars.Very nice.

The C shape neck and 20" radius fret board were an easy transition from the mod-V and 16" radius of my Martins. (being only 5'-6" short, I have small hands) I really like the short scale and 12 fret configuration...very comfortable!

I am sure the RS will get a lot of play time since it will be sitting out on a stand within easy reach...after all, the dry winter months and humid summer months will not matter.

A big shout out to Ted and Helene at LA Guitar Sales for their great customer service!

Congratulations on getting the Shorty....

You will learn to love it more and more.... I play mine daily....

And it is great not to have to worry about them.

I use Martin Monel Retros on mine and really like the tone.....

Enjoy yours....

I had Ted string mine with Martin Lifespan 7100's. That is what I use on my others.
Do you know how the Monel Retros compare to the 7100's?

I have used the 7100s but not on my Shorty....

The Monels will take some of the brightness off of the tone, which I like....

Your preferences may differ...

Congrats on the new guitar! Ted is a class act and I'm sure he was a pleasure to buy from. Post up a video or audio clip sometime.

Congratulations on a great guitar Godfather and welcome to the fold! The Shorty is a fine instrument, carbon fiber or otherwise. I have found better strings that suit the guitar than what they ship with though- I still can't understand 80/20s on carbon fiber but some might really like that.

Congrats on your new Rainsong. Before long it will be time to add a Rainsong dread to the stable...

Congrats on the new Shorty! Would love to see some pics. I was just thinking today... I want a custom Shorty in a special color scheme...

My Shorty is my most played guitar both because of its tone and its playability. Enjoy it!
