Default 2015 Founder's Choice Award - Jason Kostal

2015 Founder's Choice Award - Guitar of the Year

Kostal OM - #83

Specifications:
Brazilian Rosewood back/sides, German spruce top

Each year I give this award to the acoustic guitar that stood out to me the most. My choice for Guitar of the Year 2015 happened when I played a guitar belonging to AGF member ericsong at the Woodstock festival in upstate New York. As I approached Jason's table, Eric kindly offered his personal guitar up for me to sample in a private room. The private room however, was down some rickety stairs and across a room stuffed with people and guitar necks protruding at every angle. I somehow made my way across the crowded hall to the demonstration room without incident. A few minutes alone with this instrument and I knew that it was very special. Every note seemed perfect and artistic. It made me want to just slow down my playing and appreciate every single sound. Like a fine dinner prepared with the best ingredients by a world-class chef, every expression from this guitar was something to be savored. That's how the experience goes with a Kostal if you have the opportunity to play one in a quiet environment or hear one demonstrated by someone with talent. If you can appreciate something like this, I think you should own one.

Eric's build experience from the Custom Shop including lots of pictures:

Excellent and good for Jason Kostal! I have played one of Jason's Mod-D guitars and it was wonderful. I would love to play one of his OM guitars.

And I am so glad to see Jason up on his feet again after his terrible car accident. This is wonderful news.

...well, they are now 90% titanium and surgical steel. He can't go within a mile of an airport without setting off all the metal detectors.

Seriously, great honour for both Jason and Eric. Well deserved. Jason stands 100% behind his guitars and customer service long after the filthy lucre has changed hands. That's why he has a looooooong waiting list and many repeat customers like Eric.

Cheers,
Steve

Congratulations to Mr Kostal. Is there an available list of the recipients of this award from the first to the present? It would be a treat to see pictures of the guitars as well. Thanks, Brian
