Default Tuners

I get a lot of questions about the tuners that come on my Penelope guitar model so I thought I'd give a little detail about them:

The are made by Knilling and have black ebony buttons. They have pin roller gears in a tapered housing that give a 4 to 1 turn ratio. Also, you can adjust the tension by pushing in or pulling out a bit while turning them (much like regular pegs) This way you can control slip and don't need the fine tuning adjuster like you might see on a violin.

They are very light which helps with balance while holding the guitar. Since they don't require a flat surface for mounting it allows the lyre shaped design I use on this open headstock:

Default How much does it weigh?

One of the specs I didn't post was the weight:

That's 3 pounds 3.9 ounces or let's just say 3 1/4lbs. Many classic guitar players are used to playing highly responsive lightly built quality guitars. This nylon crossover is a very light guitar even by classic standards and it even has a two way truss rod which classic guitars often don't.

If you've never played a sub 4lbs guitar you will be very surprised by the amount of physical feedback you get when playing. The guitar really feels alive and many players say this provides a deeper connection to the guitar and the song being played. Additionally, with this guitar's active back this experience is even more enhanced as you feel the guitar not only come alive but breathe.
