Thumbs up Thanks!

Thanks for all the nice comments, guys. It's going to be a wonderful adventure to meet Joel and take delivery of this work of art in person. I'll have a lot to report next week if I can put this guitar down long enough to check in!

I'm REALLY excited for you. I've never played one of Joel's guitars, but I know enough qualified people who have played them to know that you will not be disappointed.

Post a video when you get it if you can. I'd love to hear it sing

Joel's guitars sound like a tuba stuffed with socks. That's what Joel said when I asked how mine sounded before he shipped it to me.

I would strongly disagree and have to say the guitar he made me sounds amazing, and always makes me smile. It doesn't hurt that I get the nicest comments from anyone who sees and hears it.

This one will be no exception and I fully expect you to be blown away, now and a year from now as it breaks in. Very excited for you!

Default She's here and she's awesome!!!

Back from my wonderful journey to pick up this awesome guitar! It was great getting to meet Joel and talk guitars with him for awhile. My wife and I stopped by on Thursday afternoon to pick up "Brazzie" as we've come to call her, and I dropped off my myrtlewood auditorium for him to tune up a bit. Came back through Spokane on Sunday on our way home to pick up "Tigger". Both of these guitars are true gems--I look forward to playing them for many moons to come as they develop and mature with time. Joel is also a true gem--great person and consummate craftsman. There are many talented luthiers on AGF--I would highly encourage anyone looking to commission a custom guitar to check out Joel Stehr. The experience and end results are truly worth the wait!

Work has been crazy since I've gotten back, so I'll have glamour shots once I receive them from Joel. His photo skills far surpass anything I could generate. For now, here are some shots I had taken with Joel at his shop during my visit. Thanks for following along!

Congrats!!! What a great day, not only to pick up a beautiful beautiful hand made, custom guitar, but to be able to go to the luthier shop directly and shake hands and say thank you eye to eye, that is just fantastic. Congrats on a very fun day and wonderful instrument. Congrats to Mr. Stehr as well!

Oh and BTW, that Myrtlewood looks fantastic. What a super cool grain pattern.

Joel is an awesome human being. Can't say enough good things about him as a man and as a crafter of guitars. Those are beautiful, and that new guitar is exquisite! Looking forward to an in depth tone report.

Default Final Pics!!!

Joel just sent me the final pics he took of Brazzie (apologies for the dust on the lens!). As impressive as they are, this guitar is really even more spectacular in person. I'm truly overwhelmed by the beauty of this guitar and the joy it gives me while playing it. Partly I attribute that to this being my first commissioned build, but mostly it stems from Joel's talents at producing such an over-the-top instrument. He really is a master at creating visual works of art that produce tone and soul to die for.

So how does it sound, you ask? I'm not a good describer of tone as many on the AGF are. I primarily play with a flatpick, and wanted Joel to deliver an instrument that was full and lush that could handle whatever I wanted to throw at it. He totally nailed it in my opinion. It has a crisp attack without being bright, it has plenty of volume, the bass is full without being boomy, and the sustain seems to last for days. Sorry for my lack of tonal adjectives--I just know it's awesome and that it will continue to enthrall me throughout the years.

I gained a marvelous instrument through this journey, and made a wonderful friend in the process. That's really what these builds are all about in my opinion. Thanks to the AGF for giving me the opportunity to share my journey, and to all of you for following along.

Pick on!

I think you described it perfectly! My only disappointment is that you love across the country. It would be great fun to play mine and yours to compare and contrast the tones. So glad this worked out so well for you. It is a magnificent guitar!

+1 from Mike....What a beautiful execution of a color scheme. I love the back which feeds into the center lamination of the neck and then the very colorful veneer on the headstock...all in the same color family, but different and beautiful in their own right.

It is a wonderful guitar and it has found a wonderful home.
