Default NGD: Picasso's Blue Guitar

Michael Dunn came by our shop yesterday to bring us his latest guitar - 'Picasso's Blue Guitar'. We knew within moments of playing it that it had to be ours! So meet Paul's birthday present (that was the excuse we used to buy this one), which was built by Michael recently based on the Blue Guitar painting by Picasso.

This is a 12 fret, about the size of a OO (Michael used a classical guitar body design - and then twisted it up), with Broadleaf Maple on the back and sides, and a two-piece Fir soundboard (40 lines/inch). He inlayed Ebony for the Black lines, and put a gentle Fan Fret of 640mm/650mm just to keep everything slightly askew.

We've played quite a few Michael Dunn guitars and this one really stands out for being incredibly responsive, with a very unique and versatile tone - it seems like you could play any style on it! There's a crisp attack followed by a sonorous bloom that's just a delight.

Here's the Picasso painting:

And here's Michael Dunn with 'Picasso's Blue Guitar':

And a few details:

That's pretty awesome. I love the creativity with the fret dots. Stays within the theme of the instrument. I'm curious to hear what it sounds like as well

Well, you're welcome to come by the shop and hear it anytime!

Here's another photo to show it hanging so you can see just how 'askew' it is - tough to show in a photo - but this photo is straight. The guitar isn't!

Amazing guitar/artwork.

The moustache too is equally impressive. I myself had one similar.

I love to own of Michael's guitars, there was a cedar/rosewood D-Hole I saw a video of which sounded wonderful.

Default NGD: Picasso's Blue Guitar

If I was Picasso, I would buy myself a grey guitar...

Very well done! I think it would make a great piece for a Picasso fan, especially someone who has a print of the painting. Not for me though but someone out there will fall in love with it.

What a cool guitar. Reminds me a great deal of Picasso. I have his guitar player on my wall -- a print of course. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...9QEwAA&dur=532

Michael does amazing work. Someone will be the opposite of blue to get that.

Let me clarify, we are keeping this one for ourselves - not for the shop! It's really something special.

Its a beautiful guitar and really captures the essence of the painting.

I would have expected a slot head and maybe even a nylon string to more closely match, no?
