Extra lights on a Cargo?
Has anyone tried extra lights on a Cargo? How do they sound? What brand?

I had a Cargo and found the best sounding strings were Elixir-Nano PB Mediums. I think X-Lights would be like rubber bands.

The cool thing is that you could tune it up. I used to use extra-lights on a Larrivee Parlor guitar that I tuned G to G. It repurposed that guitar quite nicely.

I put extra lights on my Ibanez but found they kept draining the battery of my onboard preamp.
I just use the stage lights now and don't bother putting any extra lights on my guitar. The new L.E.D. lights available now would probably be less draw Sorry... I couldn't resist the double play on the words. |

I just don't see the point. Extra lights on the cargo will cost tons of electricity and could only attract unwanted attention, such as from birds or, god forbid, pirates.

I agree with Jbryant....medium Elixer Nano PB's sound best on the Cargo. They came from the factory with lights but the short scale (22 3/4") seems to favor the mediums. The guitar just sounds and feels better with the 13's.

I prefer Elixer Nano 80/20 lights on mine, but mediums would work better than extra lights. The short scale would make it hard to keep extra lights from sliding around too much. I think the design of the guitar requires at least lights to drive the soundboard properly.
