Default New Composite Acoustics GXi-HG-CH just it...

and it's awesome. I had no idea that a carbon fiber guitar could sound this good. I'm already thinking about a Cargo for my river cabin. Thanks to all those who steered me in the right direction. I'm having a hard time putting it down long enough to write this. If you're even considering one of these all I can say is wait no longer?!?

I was waiting for someone else to ask, but this thread is falling off the front page and I'll forget: what is a GXi-HG-CH? I know the first part, but not the "CH" suffix.

The "CH" is just the color...charcoal. This one is a cannon! Really didn't think I would be this impressed?

I have played a GXI about 6 months ago played a GX last week impressed by both. Really don't know which one to get if I wanted to pull the trigger. The GX last week just really sang.

Jim, I hope your new GXi will give you as much pleasure as my GXi does for me. I love the bass emphasis and sustain! Congrats and enjoy!

Thanks guys...so far so good. I had one small glitch with the LR Baggs module. The tuner wouldn't work and Ted at LA Guitar Sales said he'd get CA to send a new module to me if I couldn't get the original working. I took it to my guitar tec and he worked his magic as usual. So all is good. Still getting used to a more flat profile and wider neck. I actually like it though. Bass ans sustain are awesome.

Carbon guitars are great sounding guitars although they do have their own tone and do not sound like wood at all. That said, yes I do intend to buy another one down the road to take out to places I wouldn't want to take my Martin.

Congrats from another happy GXi owner (HG Tobacco Burst). I did the reverse of what you suggest. I bought a Cargo (RT CH) and was so impressed, I ordered a GXi. Although they look similar, totally different guitars, but excellent in their own ways.

Congrats! Love my 7M-CE (now GX) and Cargo. About the only time I play my other guitars now is when I check on the in-case humidifiers. CA makes a great guitar.

How does tobacco burst look in person? I proposed it for the possible AGF model CA guitar...

When I first saw the tobacco burst finish on the CA web site in mid-2008 I didn't like it -- thought it looked like a cheesy attempt to look like a faux-wood sunburst. The poor photos on the CA site didn't help. Another AGFer bought one fall 2008 and posted some quality pics (the pic below is it) which made all the difference to me to take a chance and order one. I was not disappointed. There was no attempt to make it look like wood, just a beautiful, high gloss gradient sunburst. Personally, I find it one of the nicest sunbursts I've seen. I think a Cargo in the TB finish must be way cool!

I love the burst. I really don't care if it is imitating wood. I was at a historic festival where vendors are in costume and one of the minstrels had a CA dred with a burst. I was probably the only one that knew it was high tech. He had no worries playing outdoors in the sun etc. I vend at historic festivals as well and thought this option would add to the versatility of the guitar for me. And to me it is just beautiful anyway. Still like the GXI better than a Legacy dred but that l don't think would be as stealth in a historic setting. Life is full of tuff choices. I just need to buy one of these and end the agony.

If I had the choice to make again I'd probably go with red in the HG. Just because the "carbon burst" binding (or what looks like binding) runs together with the charcoal color. It really pops on the red or blue. If CA offered the GXi in their RAW finish that would be my first choice though. Regardless, it's a whole lot more guitar than I ever thought it would be?
