Favorite Electric Guitar
What is it? Mine--based on listening more than playing-is probably either a Les Paul or a PRS. Or an SG. Or a Ric.
OK, maybe I don't really know what mine is. I've only played Strats but I'm going to buy a new guitar soon. |

PRS. Wrong. SG. Wrong Ric. Wrong. Strat. Wrong. Tele. Ahhhhhhhhhh........ Just kidding, though I am partial to Tele sound. One of a kind.

Mine is this one hand built by Roger Sadowsky of NYC.
http://www.sadowsky.com/stock/images/3722_full.jpg I have gold hardware on it as well and it is THE best electric guitar I have ever played and compliments my 3 PRS and 2 Taylors. www.sadowsky.com

I don't have much experience with Teles. I don't think I could handle that much brightness. But I'm not sure because I love the Stones, Springsteen, Radiohead and a lot of other music that seems to be heavily driven by Teles.

Strats are the king!
I am very fond of hollow bodies too. I have owned a couple of Starfires, a 175, a 60's Country Gentleman, an original 55 Tele and an old Gibson L-42. I love 335's and Byrdlands (though I have not found "the one" yet). And I think that some of the new Les Pauls are great too. I really like old Teles like the one I had (long story) but the new ones, even the re-issues, just aren't the same. But when it is all over, a Strat just feels right to me. I like the tighter strings and the contoured body shape; the whole thing just oozes a sex appeal that no other guitar seems to have for me. If you are in the market for a new electric guitar seriously check out a Guild Bluesbird. These are awesome playing and sounding guitars with great craftsmanship and are not nearly as costly as a Les Paul (I think they are better too). Don't spend a bunch of money on a PRS until you have tried a Bluesbird. Did I mention I like Strats?

It used to be the Gibson Les Paul. Now it's a toss-up between the Carvin BOLT and the Gibson ES-135. Versatility gives the nod to the BOLT.

I have a Nashville Tele, which I love very much(and sounds the best), as well as 2 Strats which I love even more.
My first (guitar, that I bought), a Jap. 60's sunburst and my Favorite a Mex. 50's surf green Strat. Oh, what was the question? Right. Find a Strat that feels right. You know, right neck(there are different shapes) good weight, not to heavy and last some good tone from the guitar when you play it unplugged. You'll save some money with the Mex. Strats, then buy a set of Kinman Pickups and you'll never look back. Oh, I hope you didn't mind let others play your guitar, because everyone that hears it will want to.

Strat first.
Tele 2nd, but it's a little more limited on sound. Good twang. It's like dating 2 supermodels at once.

I love my 62 reissue Strat, great neck and I love the tone with 11's strapped on there.
I would love to have a Tele though! |

Tele's
Have to disagree with a post a couple back from this one.
I don't see any linitations on sound with teles. Depending on pickup choices and playing technigue teles are used in Country, Jazz, and about every other style. Scotty Anderson uses a tele with mini humbucker neck pickup and a middle and bridge pickup and with that combination he gets amazing big guitar sounds and real tele sound and plays country rock, ballads, and jazz. For a demo of a couple tele songs see: http://home.fuse.net/pvee/ About half way down the page you will see a couple mp3 song links for your pleasure. |

My PRS is sweet!
But nothing has the sweet tone of a Les Paul! I've owned Strats and Teles. But I'm a Les Paul man all the way. Did I mention that my PRS is SWEET!

Hate to brag, but this would be mine:
Shark custom. Has a flame koa neck, sounds like a cross between a strat and a jazz master. Rocking axe.

I've got a frankenstein of a Strat-type (charvel neck, Tokai body, EMGs, Floyd Rose) that's been my main solid-body since Grad School. My wife and I lovingly refer to it as "Mary Kay," because of it's pink color!
Also, I've got a Yamaha SA2000 that I love for jazz and an old Electra Omega, now with Carvin pickups, that I love for a good, basic, heavy (as in weight!) rock guitar. Don't even get me started on all the ones that have gotten away (the Alembic, the Veillette-Citron, the Howard Roberts...)...I just love guitars too much to leave well enough alone! Eric |
