CA CARGO and Air Travel
After playing one of these recently I have decided it is probably the best option, as far as sound quality and ruggedness, for a travel guitar. However, I am still wondering if the small size of this guitar makes it much easier for air travel. I don't want to invest in one of these if I'm still going to have a lot of hassle at the airport getting this on the plane and putting it in the overhead bin. Anyone have specific air travel experience with the CARGO? Thanks!

Hi,
I've got a Cargo and plenty of flying time in with it. With Southwest Airlines, I've not yet had anyone bother me just putting it in overhead. With every other airline, I've had "some" problems where they try to gate-check it. (I'm guessing 20% of the time). It finally got me to the point where I won't be bothering to take that on-board anymore, but I wish you the best of luck. At this point, the only thing I trust is to make arrangements to have a guitar I like at the destination. In most cases I can borrow one for the time I'm there. Plenty of people will tell you they've never had a problem. I'm sure that's true. It doesn't mean anything in a predictive sense about whether you will or not. This is 100% luck of the draw. By most airline rules, the Cargo doesn't really fit the 'linear' size requirements and neither does a Violin. My brother is a fiddle player and that is not worth his while to waste time on anymore either (with the airlines and gate-checking I mean). There is never time to talk this over at the gate, etc, so make your plans before you get into one of these situations. Papol |

Depends on the airline, really.
Southwest is great in this regard. |

I have a Cargo and travel with it regularly. Never have a problem with Southwest. American, United and Continental used to be ok, but I've heard recent stories.
But if you really want to travel with a guitar, I think the Cargo is a great one to do it with.

Took mine to Denver on a ski trip on United (January). No problem either way.
