Tonepros has discontinued the white button tuners but you can still find them. There is a set listed on EBAY if you act quickly.

If you can live without open backs, these are probably a drop in:

Banner J45s, of course, came with open gear three on a plate screwed or riveted cog tuners. The enclosed tuners did not start showing up on Gibsons until around 1948. Then again, as it is not really a Banner, just get what you like best.

Taylor is great to work with and does superb work. He gets mentioned from time to time here on the forum.

Are you sure your' 2003 has press-fit bushings? My 1994 has threaded bushings

Leave it to Gibson to be inconsistant. I guess they use whatever parts are available.

I just bought a set of Tonepros Kluson style tuners with white buttons and threaded bushings on EBAY. I should have them on Tuesday. They should look and work great on my 1994 J45.

Good move! Good luck, and a pic is required after they are installed :-)

I'm with you. The green tulip buttons belong on SG's. My 2004 PRS McCarty has them and they look out of place too.

Not sure the holes line up on yours. The mounting hole design and the bushing diameters, that is.
For me my 1999 J45 Grovers improve the tuning.
And... with more mass affect the sound favorably too.

For vintage looking, round (oval) whitish buttons, I like many of the off white "vintage" aged" buttons out there by Kluson and others.

My last regrettable sale of my Gibson J 45 TV had aesthetically optimum Gibson J 45 tuners. Look them up on eBay or Google. See if they meet your fancy.
Then comes the two hole patterns. There are conversion bushings for larger holes too. I would not have drill marks showing on your J-45 for resale value.

Love me some 90's J-45's! I still have 2 Gibson slopes.
I might get another TV. I really blew it selling that one.

There are Gotoh tuners that are pretty much the same footprint as your stock ones, but their buttons are more of an Ivory color...

http://www.stewmac.com/Hardware_and_..._Machines.html

They also have the same tuner with a "butterbean" style button...

http://www.stewmac.com/Hardware_and_..._Machines.html

I have an SG that came with those same "Gibson Deluxe" tuners as yours. I kinda like the vintage 'green' color myself, but my problem with them was that they just weren't very good tuners...glitchy, imprecise and wouldn't hold tune. I replaced them with a set of "Grover Deluxe" tuners that were identical in appearance but are outstanding...very precise and hold tune just fine, even with a Bigsby that I use a lot on that guitar. They are green, though.

I do highly recommend the Gotohs, though. Very smooth, accurate, and they stay put!
