Duran hit his first homer last night. Seems off to a slow start after (I think) 2 games but that first homer is a highlight.

Anybody see the Cardinal--Cub game last night? The bottom of the fourth had to be one of the weirdest I've ever seen. Three errors by the Cubs and four runs by the Cardinals while hitting only one ball out of the infield.

First time the Sox ever hit 3 homers on the road in the first inning. Baseball is weird.

Sounds like two unusual things happened. One of the great things about sports are those little random facts and unusual plays.

I’ve been a baseball fan for longer, even, than my pal Kerbie. I have listened to thousands of games. First, on the radio. Then, on the net back in dial up days. Then, xm. Then Atbat. I’ve overslept my job at Oxford in 2004 because of the time difference between there and Boston and tie games and David Ortiz walkoffs as the sun arose in England.

And I hear new things all the time.

But then again, this team was built to hug the cellar. Best get it over with now as opposed to the traditional late-season fold.

It's going to be a long season, Jim. But we know what we had going in. It'll help when we get Sale and Rodriguez back but I think it'll be too late given the Yankees/Rays/Blue Jays.

I’m glad to appear to have been wrong.

But I’ve had many years of watching spectacular failures snatched from the jaws of victory. No one who remembers where he or she was when Bucky Dent earned his nickname feels comfortable when the Sox are leading.

OK, I have to concede on that note.

Or Bill Buckner. That game was over. Every other team in the league would have won that game, even the Cubs with their billy goat curse would have won. But we picked up 4 titles in the last 17 years so we can move on.

McNamara lost that game. Stapleton should have been subbed at first. Not that I’m still bitter.

+1. Buckner should have had a defensive replacement but McNamara wanted Buckner in there because he deserved it. This makes me think of how Grady Little lost Game 7 against the Yankees in 2003. He should have pulled Pedro. Cost us the series and him his job.

Wow - shouldn't we be reliving glory years instead?

Not in a Sox fan’s DNA.

Another freak inning. Sox walk off with 2 runs in the 10th on no hits. First-time ever 4 wild pitches in one extra inning.
