Default Diamond Studded Shoes

I heard this song on the radio as I was driving yesterday. I thought it was so good I pulled over to write down the name so I could but it when I got home ...only to find out the album doesn't get released for another month. I love everything about this song, including the message.

There's even an unplugged version she did for WFUV.

Thanks for this Jim!

I listened to the entirety of both videos. Great voice and well done song! I get the message, too.

I'm glad someone liked it. It impressed the heck out of me. I don't often stop to write down the name of a song and artist I hear on the radio but I did in this case. For this song at least, I hear influences of Mavis Staples and Aretha Franklin. It blows me away. Still 10 days before the album drops and it's killing me.

Yes, I thought of both Mavis Staples and Aretha Franklin, too. I enjoyed her voice and her unaffected delivery.

That was really great!

I have a preference for the unplugged version, though. ‘Glad she’s on my radar now—so, thanks!

This is on a different theme but possessing similar verbiage and immediately came to mind and I love the Township sound:

Had one of those stop me in my tracks experience with this live performance of hers

The build from the cool down around 2:35 that starts to explode about 3 minutes in gave me all the feels.

This song is "other side" of the "single" and the studio recording is a better recording, but the live performance in that video is at another level.

Dan Auerbach, The Black Keys guy, seems involved in the album.

Here's another great video of Yola from the NPR Tiny Desk series. The video notes are interesting...

Aug. 25, 2020 | Bob Boilen -- Yola is an electrifying performer. My first experience — in the dark, dingy basement of Grimey's at the 2016 AMERICANAFEST in Nashville — was stunning, soulful and frenetic. To see this British singer now — sitting in a grassy, sunlit backyard in Nashville with acoustic guitar accompaniment — was worthy of a double-take. But that's what makes these Tiny Desk (home) concerts so fascinating. We get reintroduced to the deeper sides of so many of the participating artists. In this case, Yola performs songs with guitarist Jordan Tice of Hawktail. They're beautiful interpretations of songs from her 2019 album Walk Through Fire and her 2016 EP Orphan Offering that pull back the intensity I associate with Yola's music, but are still passionate and fervent. This is a rare Yola moment in her temporary quarantine home, so put the whiskey aside, grab a glass of iced tea and chill.
