Thanks for posting. It's interesting to get a few more bits on how Emerald builds their guitars, and appreciation for how much labor goes into them.

Alistair looks a bit like me - no hair and a short beard. I am just a lot skinnier (not that he is fat, but that I am on medication that took away most of my weight).

Anyway, thanks for posting this since I now own two (count 'em!) Emerald guitars, a 6 and a 7 string X20s. I never planned on it, but when enabled, what does a self-respecting AGF'er do but buy, buy, buy!

OMG! Alistair stood on the neck and body of the guitar! I was holding my breath... no, I won't be doing that with any of my Emeralds.

This was a very interesting look at some of the processes that take place in the Emerald facility. Eye opening with the segment on the Plek process.

Most comprehensive look at the factory that I've seen.

For a short while, CA Guitars had a video of driving a pickup truck over one of their carbon fiber guitars. I would think that Alistair's guitars would likewise handle that too. It would certainly be a dramatic way to get a flat five substitution!

Interesting, I've watched a lot of this guy's videos. This will give Emerald a bit of exposure as he has a pretty decent social media following. Nice!

Neat to see the new expanded shop in an overview. I cringed when Alistair stepped on that raw vibrant weave guitar. Plain silver (untinted) would be cool too. But later when they showed the cantilevered neck jig at the polishing station, it was clear how strong the neck joint is.

Yeah, if that was a custom order, I can imagine how the buyer must have felt about that

Yes, it would.

Alistair explained why the 3D builder does not offer the plain silver finish option. I believe it was posted somewhere in this forum.

The reason is that the clear coat finish which Emerald uses has a yellow-ish tint. You would not notice this on colored or black carbon fiber, but it does show over the silver weave.

Nevertheless, if requested Emerald can do it.

Thanks for that answer... it makes sense, and something that I never heard before. I would have to see the tint-less vibrant weave color with clear coat to decide if it were aesthetically pleasing. Heaven forfend that it turns out like the fake orange "spray tan" effect of Martin aging toner. And how often do you get to use forfend?

It’s only been used 15 times before in the entire searchable history of the AGF

For those of us for whom English is our native language but still don't know what a "forfend" is (me included, and I have a college degree)...

transitive verb
To keep or ward off; avert.
To forbid.
To prohibit; to forbid; to avert.

"Forfend" is a perfectly cromulent word. It has already embiggened your vocabulary.

(These are a Simpsons reference for those who don't recognize it. One teacher used embiggened and mentioned to another that she had never heard of that word before moving to Springfield. The other teacher said, "It's a perfectly cromulent word"). I could easily have said heaven forbid, but look at the extra thread activity that was generated.....

Says on video 70% of the guitars have a veneer top. He is an excellent marketer as well a guitar builder. Veneer gives a uniqueness and you can pick it out on the builder. That’s marketing!
