Man…I sure hope so. We’ll see though. If it falls apart in 40 years I’ll have the answer: shoulda used more clamps.

Thanks for the chuckle, John!

Those brass inserts bring back memories from life before retirement as a project engineer.

Do you drill & tap the hole or just let the brass threads do the work? Do you use epoxy or glue?

I was thinking of these inserts for a similar project.

What a splendid guitar!

Good questions.

We just drill the hole and then screw the brass threads in to lock it in. However a step that wasn’t pictured is that we install a mahogany dowel down the heel from the heel cap to just under the fretboard. This gives the threads something to bite into.

If we just screwed into the neck like pictured without the internal dowel, then the inserts would be screwing into end grain the whole way which is hard to do and does not hold the threads well. Once installed, we will soak the area with some super glue to help keep them locked in as well.

What Ryan is describing with the use of a mahogany dowel on another one of their guitars…

That is a great solution to ensure long-term stability.

Thank you both for the explanation and photos.

Very nice and classy build, but not as classy as that blue shirt!

Looks like you all are having too much fun.
