I’ve got a Preston Thompson coming.. Coming, may be a bit of an overstatement. I’m in the 8th month of of a 20 month or so process. They don’t rush things over there, and as a custom furniture builder myself, I understand that there’s no hurrying when you’re striving for a standard of quality that few can match. My tattoo guy is always saying something like, good ain’t fast, fast ain't cheap.. Or something like that .. Christine has been great and super patient with me as I pondered what my dream guitar was actually going to look like. After months of internal struggle I finally decided to go with a D- Adi/Mad.. Their standard Adi top, with Madagascar back and sides, and Koa binding/tail wedge. Style 41 appointments, abalone rosette, mystic flakes on the ebony fretboard, and their beautiful torch, adorning the Madi veneered headstock. Each of these choices has a reason behind it. The adi top is standard, but I do prefer Adi topped dreads. Madagascar felt like a nice middle ground between Mahogany and Brazilian. Then there's the Koa binding, the Style 41 appointments, mystic flakes on the fretboard, and the torch, all in abalone. All those just listed are me paying homage to our humble 4 string friend the ukulele. I started my musical journey playing uke. And although I don’t spend as much time playing them anymore, I will always be grateful to that instrument for helping get started down this path. I'll post pics when I get them!!!

Revisiting this, I ran across a recording of my redwood top guitar. It sounded nice via recording. My ears didn't quite hear "it" in person. Perhaps I may have to look at a redwood guitar some day.

A cedar SJ is on the menu for 2024.....

Mr. Dawson, a math teacher at my high school, had a diagram he used to prove that a straight line can bisect only two sides of a triangle.

He drew a triangle on the blackboard and wrote fast on one side, cheap on another, and good on the other.

Then, as he bisected it three ways, he said, "You can get things fast and cheap . . . or fast and good . . . or good and cheap. But you'll never get anything fast, good, and cheap."

It a law of nature.

Well, technically speaking, you will not be expecting a guitar to be delivered in 2023 but you’ll be expecting a lot of anticipation and excitement delivered in 2023, so I think that it should count! :-)
How exciting!
Best,
Jayne

I was finally up for an ARK New Era. Due to start last December. Unfortunately Tony became ill and is no longer with us. He was a nice guy and a terrific luthier. He will be missed

That was terribly sad news. Rest in peace, Tony. Your music will live on through your wonderful instruments.

I have a dread being built by Steve Beckwith of Beckwith Strings in Grafton, Mass. He is a small local luthier that I commissioned to build a guitar for me at the start of the year. Nothing crazy ornamentally, but it will be a stitka spruce top with, honduran mahogany back and sides. I am expecting delivery hopefully sometime next month! I can't wait to get it! I'll post pictures once done!!

Default Kinnaird FS model

I have a Steve Kinnaird/Ryan Middlebrook FS model coming by the end of the year which was started a few weeks ago. It features an amazing back and side set of Koa with a creamy Italian Spruce top.

Really super excited to get this one in my hands!

Here's a shot of the back with the inlaid center backstrip...
