Acoustic master: "Angie" ('Anji') by Davy Graham - performed by Josh Turner
The classic tune "Angie (originally 'Anji') by Davy Graham - better known in versions by Paul Simon and Bert Jansch. Here's a newer version by Josh Lane. [edit: I had originally posted it as "Josh Turner."]
Computer controlled right hand (check the flamenco rolls), left hand guided by God, and the mien of a pirate throughout. Wow. The embed code isn't working here, so trust me for this YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tFN902wH0g =K Last edited by K-wey; 04-21-2023 at 01:49 AM. |

Here's another one. This guy, Andrew Lardner, is obsessive about decoding the fine details and nuances of the original performance of guy like Jansch, Kottke, Fahey, Rev. Gary Davis, and others. The only Patreon account that I patronize, so to speak. I'm a huge fan of Josh Turner, too.

Josh Turner's version is great. Here's a very different take on the tune from one of Britain's finest living acoustic guitarists. Just booked my ticket to see him again next January. (And yes, he still plays 'Heartsong'!)

I love this song! I first heard Paul Simon's version, back in the mid-60's... since then I've heard so many different versions; truth is, I've liked them all, as it's just a great song!
(I must confess that I was quite taken aback when I first heard Davey Graham's version on "Folk, Blues and Beyond"; I had heard many iterations of the tune before I heard the composer playing it, and it took me a while to really appreciate his take.) I still remember beating my brains out, trying to learn this song, back there as a 15 year-old fledgling Travis picker! Invaluable time spent, though, as difficult as it was... And, after all this time, I vastly prefer Paul Simon' version to all the others, with Bert Jansch's take a close second!
