The M1 uses 5 nm tracing.

These videos are making me very lusty. I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with the larger iMac.

I'm barely dipping my big toe into home recording and/or video, but I picked up a M1 MacMini earlier this year, and it seems like plenty for what I want to accomplish. I have it hooked up in the sitting area of my MBR, running HDMI into my 50" TV as the display. I have a MB Pro for work, so I'm super happy with this more stationary setup.

After a long wait it is time for me to upgrade my 2012 Mac Book Pro. I ordered the 16in M1 Max with 64 gigs of ram. Won’t see it until early/mid December which seems like an eternity!

I've fully committed to the M1/M1PRO chip, already ordered a 16" MBP M1PRO 16/1tb, supposed to be here next week. Went ahead and ordered a Mac mini M1 16/1tb today as a dedicated Logic Pro and Apple tells me first week in December for the Mini M1.

I'm trading in two machines, a 2018 MBP 13" on the MBP M1PRO 16" and a 2017 27" iMac on the mini M1. Apple is offering OK money, the Mac mini is like $450 after the iMac trade. We're an Education family, wife gets the Ed discount and that helps of course.

The Apple trade in is a big factor in my decision, I checked on both my computers as trades six months ago and Apple wasn't interested, offered to recycle them for me. So something changed, like maybe the world wide chip shortage?

That and when I upgraded to Monterey on the 2017 iMac, it hosed Calendar, wouldn't load, crashed at launch,.. tried a bunch of things to repair including clean install of the OS. Finally spent an hours and forty minutes w/ AppleCare two levels, but got it fixed. The tech offered when asked,.. Monterey isn't playing nice w/ some older intel Macs. Hat's off to Apple, my AppleCare is way over on that machine and they worked hard to find the conflict, was an old set of files in a start up preference folder in the library from M-Audio in 2014, brought through migration assistant from an older machine.

I think the dirty secret is any new OS (Monterey) will be written for the new M chips and as a long time Apple user I might as well play along. It's a bonus that the speed bump and efficiency w/ the new chips is so substantial.

Here is a prognostication about what the new Mini, iMac, and Mac Pros could look like

It's a bit long and he wanders a bit But there is some pretty good info I think

Honestly for most AGF'ers the current M1 Mini (and the current MB Air and 13" MBP ) are more than enough machine for great audio production (the only caveat being if you are also doing a bunch of video projects) in which case these new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips are going to give faster rendering and exporting. Whether or not not matters is of course subjective .....

Given I have a perfectly good 2020 intel iMac in my studio (specs in my sig below) ,,, for a new laptop I am seriously looking at the 2nd base tier option MBP 14" with the 10-Core CPU,16-Core GPU, 16GB Unified Memory and 1TB SSD Storage (and have approval from my CFO. )
And I agree the trade in program with Apple is pretty nice, the machine I am typing this on is a Mid 2013 Air and it is still worth $260 trade in .....

The picture of the M1 Ultimate made my heart flutter even though it's a fictitious picture.

The impact of these new Macs is already yielding at least one very big change. It appears that UA plugins will now run natively on M1 mac with Rosetta (an emulator designed to bridge the transition between Intel and Apple processors) installed. I had said in another thread that these new Macs were going to make the full-time dsp model obsolete. Looks like UA came to the same conclusion. I'm impressed by how quickly they moved on this.

Just ordered a new MBP 14" M1 Pro chip second tier base model The 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, 16GB unified memory, 1TB SSD storage.

I will probably try Rosetta but an definitely looking forward to Avid making PT run native on the new chips Mostly will be using it FCPX projects
