Which guitar now?
Ok, I have seen this before, but I guess it’s MY turn.
I am shopping again. Have a $2-$3K budget for a decent acoustic/electric. I have a later Ovation and a Taylor 814ce that I like. I am thinking about trying the Takamine P7DNC. I had a TNV360 SC that is fondly remembered. Or perhaps a Maple body Jumbo/dred. Fit and finish, tone and good electronics is all I need (hahaha). Like a 914ce at a 314 price. I am open to many types, including carbon fiber. Armed with this information, what might you suggest? Really wanting new…. Thanks, and be kind…. |

What type of music do you play? Preference on tone woods? Neck shape, nut width? Cutaway or non? Body size and shape? If you give us a little more to go on, you'll probably get more helpful suggestions.

Since you mentioned CF, I would strongly advise you to at least dip a toe and check them out. While I do and will continue to have wood acoustics, my workhorses are my Emerald X7 and Rainsong Shorty SG. While Rainsong no longer makes the CH and other lower-priced series, but I would feel more comfortable about buying a used CF than a used wood guitar because of their greater durability.
You could also check out a McPherson touring - right in your price range. While I haven't played one, many folks on the CF forum here attest that they are almost identical in tone (although perhaps not volume) to the > $3K Sable. Also, Klos has both full-size and travel CFs in your price range. If you are interested in the ultimate in travel guitars, there is always the Journey OF-660 = which falls under your price range. The higher-end Taks (heck - even the lower-priced ones) are fantastic guitars, and you sure can't go wrong with one of them, but I think you owe it to yourself to at least check out a CF if you have the opportunity. |

Here you go: Guild F40 Traditional. Or just peruse the Guild lineup.

For a maple body jumbo look into the Eastman AC630BD.

Play Americana, roots, folk, some rock. GA or Dred is what I usually have. Glitz is fine. Play out now and then….

For the roots and americana stuff, I like Gibson in spruce and hog. Just my personal preference.

Agreed. Either a J-45 or a D-18. That's how I would spell "Americana."

Well, IMHO, there are far worse choices than a good J-45.

IMO the Eastman AC630 is straight up beautiful. I mean, OMG that flame maple. Check out the YouTube video to listen to that tone. And at under $2250 it's a Gibson J-200 killer. https://youtu.be/DWcmcKlXT9Mhttps://...be/DWcmcKlXT9M
