SOLD: Wilborn Lion Sinker Redwood/Koa-This is a beauty too!!
Wilborn Lion Sinker Redwood/Koa
A beauty to play and to just stare at ha! I bought this recently and I love Ben Wilborn's guitars (I've had him build two for me). Certainly I love this one, but keeping it isn't in the cards right now. It has beautiful wood, and if that were it, that might be enough. But for anyone who has played Ben's guitars, this is another of his lightweight beauties that just ring with gorgeous tone. To my ears, this is simply superb for a smaller body guitar. The Woods: Sinker Redwood: growing harder to find with the mineral streaks that make this wood so compellingly gorgeous. Most of this wood was preserved underwater and is around 150 years old. Tonally it is in the "Redwood sound family" ie: crisp but warm, with more headroom approaching spruce type response. Hawaiian Koa: Koa is indigenous to Hawaii and, unfortunately, Koa forests have depleted drastically over the years. As a result, the price of Koa wood has soared. It is beautiful to behold and under finish has a translucence that is awe inspiring. Tonally it tends more towards the Mohogany tonal spectrum than the Rosewood. Someone said "If you can’t decide between maple and rosewood, Koa offers the best of both worlds: the crisp, clarity of the former and warmth and thick tone of the latter." The trim package: This one is trimmed in Rosewood, and has Paua abalone around the perimeter of the guitar, as well as around the fingerboard and headstock. Visually stunning! In this Lion, Ben Wilborn*offers up a small-bodied guitar whose Koa-and-Redwood*frame contains a heady charge of projection, silky overtones, and a warm fundamental. An impressive guitar on looks alone (from the Abalone*trim to the dark patina of the Sinker Redwood*and Wenge*headstock veneer), this Lion*hits the right chord for inspiration at the drop off a hat with a delightfully responsive playability thanks to the short scale and Ben’s*oval C shape neck. With features like a soundport and Ben’s*forward-shifted upper bout for player comfort, this Lion*further stands apart from the crowd, but feels intimate and familiar in your hands at the first pluck. Specs: Model: Lion Serial #: 111 Body Type: Small, 00 Back & Sides Wood: Koa Top Wood: Sinker Redwood Neck Wood: Mahogany Neck Profile: C Bridge: Ebony Top Trim: Abalone Fingerboard: Ebony Fingerboard Bindings: Ebony Frets to Body: 14 Headplate: Wenge Cutaway: None Pickguard: Clear Pickup: James May Ultra Tonic pickup Body Length: 18.5 Upper Bout: 10.125 Lower Bout: 14 Body Depth Heel: 3.75 Body Depth Tail: 4.125 Nut Width: 1.75 Original hard shell case Price: $SOLD Will consider reasonable cash offers and some trades with a solid cash addition.
