Default Awesome Women

I saw Joan Baez on a documentary about the Big Sur Folk Festival and she was on fire! Great finger stylist! I also agree with the Lisa Loeb pick. I don't think Nancy Wilson played the lead parts on the original Heart albums. I saw them live in those years (late 70's) and they had a totally awesome guitarist playing all those parts... don't remember his name... but my wife says it was Michael something?

I gotta give some props to Liz Phair... "Table for One" is a great song. Not sure how much of the guitar she plays on it, but I'll give her props just for her songwriting.

Hard to beat Bonnie Raitt for blues. Lisa Loeb/Liz Phair for singer/songwriter & Joan Baez for folk.

Bonnie Raitt, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez.

Which probably says more about my age than anything else...

People also tend to forget what a MONSTER guitar player the late Mimi Farina was--Richard got all the attention with his flamboyance and the envelope he pushed with his take on the dulcimer (which envelope thirty years later has of course been torn to bits), and most people remember Mimi's sweet soprano voice and that she was Joan's kid sister--but oy vey could she fingerpick!!!

Worry less about the guitars you want. Play the guitar you have more.
The answer will come, and it will not be what you expect.

A guitar is a tool, and a friend. But it is not the answer.

It is the beginning.

Bonnie Raitt for the blues
Nancy Wilson for the rock
perhaps Ms Joan for the folk

but Polly Harrison for Jazz and overall. What she can do with a 7-string Benedetti is amazing

Gillian Welch, of course, and lately Patty Griffin. Great songwriter, beautiful voice, good guitar player.
Also, Emmylou Harris, Sheryl Crow, and Sarah Harmer

I saw a video on GAC's "Edge of Country" with her and David playing "I Wanna Sing That Rock n Roll". Fantastic!

BTW, she was playing a beautiful vintage Gibson sunburst (couldn't tell which model, the cameraman did not make it a pripority to show it; but I did see the adjustable brdige ofthe 1960s era). Have you seen that, Karen?

Those darn cameramen! You can tell the ones that play guitar and the ones that don't.... the ones that don't focus on the artists' faces. I'm sitting in front of the TV yelling 'Oh, for heaven's sake, I've seen her face a million times, now what guitar is that? Is she playing a G add D on that song???' etc.
We don't get GAC up here so I missed that one. I've only known her to play her J-50 and a Guild, so I've no idea what that sunburst would have been? I'll have to go on a search Brb!
