Default These Dreams

I recorded this song yesterday, using separate tracks for guitar and vocals. Guitar was played using the 914 with a ORTF pair of Gefell M300's. Vocals were sung with the Peluso 22 47, both through the Avalon AD2022 preamp, then into the computer using an E-MU 1212m soundcard. This is a song originally written and recorded by Jim Croce. I just love doing his songs and I hope you enjoy! These Dreams

Thanks Kevin, I will have to learn that song. BTW, I rerecorded the song and I think I sounds much better. I sped it up a bit and balanced the vocals and guitar volumewise, then applied more effects and moved the voice back in the mix. These Dreams

Wow guys, thanks alot! Coming from people on this forum , that means alot!

Ketchup, I started playing when I was 21, so that means I have played for 24 years. I have been recording for a year now, still trying to learn how to use this equipment, which is an art in itself. As far as the playing is concerned, I am pretty stuck in my ways. I haven't learned a whole lot about guitar playing, but enough to accompany myself in live situations.

Harlon, coming from you, it also means alot! I have heard people with cheap equipment record some really high quality stuff, so I feel a great responsibility to really learn how to get a decent sound. I really need input from you and everyone to help me with this endeavor, thanks amigo!

Default Final Mix

After some input from another forum, there was a bit much boominess on the guitar. Vocals were also too far back in the mix. I tweaked the effects again and EQ. BTW, there is now no EQ at all on the guitar, amazing how well-balanced these mics and preamp are. I listened with a good pair of headphones, so I think it is just where I want it to be. Thanks for all the great input! Here is the final mix: These Dreams

Hey Rick, as always, great work. It may be simply my preference but I would enjoy your stuff even more if you didn't carry the words out for as long as you do. But hell, that's just being picky. Good stuff.

Funny you should mention that Bob. Last night, I did just that: I set up my PA at a party with about 80 people, had loads of fun, other people were singing along. I was set up next to a beautiful pool with a disappearing edge and a gas fire pit with people gathered around. I felt like I did in my younger days when I used to do that more often. Thanks Danny, Kevin, Jedd, and Thorny!
