The Reason (Andy McKee / Olson SJ #1449)
Here's my first attempt at covering Andy McKee's "The Reason". This was my first venture in Andy's music and I had a great time learning this piece.
I am playing my Olson SJ BRW/cedar on this recording. Unlike Andy's original version, I decided to strap a capo on the second fret. This was done mostly as a personal challenge to myself. I hadn't learned any covers in years and I felt like it'd be a good opportunity to add new vocabulary to my own playing. There are a few rough spots, including the part where I am missing a cutaway. There's also a police siren at some point that slightly distracts me. Thanks for listening. http://youtu.be/gNWw28cMexw |

Hi Mau,
Awesome playing! Really well done! I love the tone you get, I love the smooth flow of your playing -- very nice! I never heard the siren, so while it may have distracted you (I couldn't tell that you were distracted), it never bothered me. Thanks for that! - Glenn

Wow Mau, what a great sound your are getting out of that Olsen ! This is really well done and your playing is spot on, when combined with how you captured the heart of this tune, this is a great performance !

Amazing, Mau. Your playing and tone making it sound as your own, actually, if I didn't know already that this piece composed by Andy McKee, I'd thought it's yours, not in terms of composing, but in terms of playing it's definitely you, even if you play cover. This is quite special, I think.

Congrats. Better presentation than Andy's own youtube of it.

This is the only piece that I practiced over the last 2-3 weeks. I must've repeated it 15-20 times a day. I'm still working on it now... |

I tried to stick with Andy's ornaments as much as possible -- but I did allow myself a couple of "lingering slides" and I slowed down the interlude. |
