The second side is still cooling in the bender. If it fits as well as the first side, and it probably will, I'll have this box closed by the weekend.

Lately, I see people referring to moldless construction as a technique reserved for experts. Since I am one, my perspective may be skewed, but surely this is the easy way to build a guitar. Once the technique is comfortable, one shape of guitar is as easy as another, and incremental change is a piece of cake. This is much of why/how my guitars improve so markedly one to the next.

I’m with you Dave, I still shy away from it as a young builder only because the market seems averse to colour in tops, but I love it.

Smile Always so pretty...

Beautiful, as always, Bruce!

I like the black and white flower ribbon side reinforcement, but I can see skulls and crossbones in my minds eye, too

Carry on and have fun.

Today was Petaluma's annual Butter and Egg Day parade. It's a good a local parade as I can imagine. I took my dog Koal and we walked for 2 1/2 hours in crowds and visited my wife who was working a "Bernie" booth. What a good dog.

Before we left I glued the back on "Further". When we got back I cleaned her up and got going on the binding/purfling sandwich. I have been trying to make this guitar's documentation similar to the "hOMage's" so you can play "find the differences", of which there are quite few.

Default NCAL May 5 meeting

Yesterday I bound the FT-15 "Further", my current project.

For those of you within driving distance, I will host a meeting of the Northern California Association of Luthiers in my shop this Sunday, May 5, between 2 and 5pm. All interested persons are welcome. Warning: If you are not at the very least a guitar geek, you will not be enthralled. We will have show and tell around new instruments and techniques, and I will do a presentation on something lutherie related. My shop address in on my Website Contact Page. No RSVP required.

Looks like a good chance I’ll get the strings on the “Tree” OM in time to show it off at Sunday’s NCAl meeting.

Is that why it is called "further". Wasn't that a Grateful Dead thing?

Hmmm....

Sure is a beauty

Happy Friday

Just to be clear . . . As if . . . The guitar pictured above is the “Tree” guitar I made a couple of months ago and which has been curing for the last several weeks. I am just now getting it ready to deliver. The back and sides are exact sister-wood to the guitar I showed at B.I.G. and Artisan, and amount to a very effective Rorschach test. Some see demons, some see teddy bears. I see a genie.

The guitar after that is “hOMage”, a near replica of a pre-war Martin OM. The current guitar is “Further”, and the name is a reference to “hOMage” as it is an OM style guitar which incorporates a number of features which I believe to be improvements over Martin’s time honored OM concept.

Beautiful work Bruce... it is exciting to see all the components come together...I love the simplicity of design… It lets the beauty of the woods be the main focus of the guitar. Looking forward to hearing her voice. Thanks again for your guidance and craftsmanship in making this guitar a reality.

DON’T DROP IT!
