Very sage advice, IMO.
I already do that without (hopefully) being a fool.

By the way what IS a dictionary. It seems to get a lot of attention in this thread.

Without a dictionary, spell correct, or google, I'd be lost.

So even thought I know the difference between your and you're, and their, there, and they're, I can write (right?) them incorrectly.

People often think spelling is a sign of intelligence, which it is, but not the only one.
I personally don't think spelling is a sign of intelligence (or lack thereof). My younger brother is a partner in a law firm in downtown Los Angeles. He really is smart and has accomplished much in his life to date, building fine classical guitars, making fine paintings, much successful study outside his field, extra class amateur radio license, and on and on. He is a very poor speller, and is but one example among many. So don't let the spelling fool people.

Interesting. I was taught that "moot" means that the point has no bearing, and "mute" means to silence something or the inability to speak or utter a sound. But then, it does seem that a lot of what I was taught about the English language in school seems to have changed and I have been blissfully unaware, thinking that folks were simply using certain words incorrectly. When I was a kid, certain stereo receivers had a "mute" button, but I never saw a "moot" button.

Well according to Edmund Blackadder, 'It's the most pointless book since “How To Learn French” was translated into French' (https://blackadderquotes.com/blackad...ty-full-script), and I'd be inclined to agree, if words like "Irregardless" are allowed in it!

Why even bring that word up? Unless you were looking for contention?

I might be wrong, but like the 60+ posts in this thread so far, I suspect it might have been intended to be humourous.

I didn't find it humorous, so I had to look it up.

Ok, you’d prefer to discuss this in open forum rather than through my PM. Then let me make myself clear here: It was about a word. Not who said it, just like all the other words that people used in this thread that somebody said. The thread is intended to be lighthearted.
