Default Patrick Mahomes signs $503M contract

Patrick Mahomes signs $503M contract. Although not fully guaranteed it's still a major salary cap hit. Gotta believe the Chiefs will regret this.

Your thoughts?

It's a tiny bit of money.

I'm a Pats fan, as you probably know. But Patrick is very talented and seems pretty humble, so he deserves a big pay day. I don't about this big though... time will tell.

He's awfully good, but I don't know how any one player can measure up to that. Makes A-Rod's look like pocket change.

Odds are in about 5 years KC won't be able to afford to build a team to put around him.

+1. Short term "feel good" moment. Sounds like that Mahomes and/or the team can walk away after a few years? I didn't really understand that's the case.

Contract doesn't kick in for 2 years.

As a Raider fan, I hope it cripples their ability to sign and retain other talent!

$503M????

Why, was the previous record $502M or something?

Kaepernick went to the superbowl in his third (second as a starter) season.

Just saying. I'm sure a lot of Bay area folks would have been thrilled to nail down a 10 year contract with "Kap" the summer after the superbowl. It was only for six though...

It's all in the way the contract is structured.

The contract has many line item contingencies and requirements and bailout clauses.

I think they come up with $503 million if everything works out just right (for the player)

He probably would have walked had it been only $502M.

I don't know the details of the contract but I would guess he will receive a substantial amount of 'secured' money upfront. Beyond that I would think there are 'back-out' clauses on both sides. The money people know 'Caps' and will not put all their eggs in one basket. The big money may or may
not be seen in the long run. If it plays out nicely in the long run it will prove to be a good deal. Especially for the franchise.

If I was making that kind of money I’d buy everyone of us the guitar of their choice.

Anyone know Patrick well enough to pitch the idea over cocktails?
