Sorry to hear. I can't say if I'd have liked the guy, but he seemed to be the opening act for nearly every band I saw when I first started going to shows in the mid-70s. Must have seen him 6-8 times at least, never really by choice, but I sort of got used to seeing their band and enjoyed them. Particularly when he'd pull out the fiddle in a big rock arena....

RIP

-Ray

I really enjoyed his music, and he seemed to be a standup guy

This makes me so sad.
I've seen Charlie in concert three times.

A truly great musician and Patriotic American.

RIP Charlie.

Over a very long career in the music business he remained a noticeably ethical man and never wavered from that. I liked that about him. I used to wear out his "Fire on the Mountain" album back in the mid 70's. I have always liked the song "Trudy" from that album.

I saw him back in college around 1978-79 and loved his music before that and ever since.

RIP Mr. Daniels,
PJ

Wow. He'll be missed. Besides being a bigger-than-life person he was genuinely nice to everyone around him, no matter how low on the totem pole of the business. Whenever he was at my studio he'd enter the room with a loud and cheerful, "HI, FELLERS!"

I'll miss his cheerfulness and straightforwardness.

Bob

I always liked the song "Georgia" that he did. Not the Ray Charles version. God's speed and rest easy Charlie...you earned every bit of it!

Seen it pop up on Google today. Really liked his music.

He was a stand up guy. The article I read said that all the years he had a band he never missed a payroll. That in and of itself speaks volumes.

Heaven's band just got a whole lot better.

I remember playing the 45 of "Ballad of the Uneasy Rider" on my Voice of Music record player when it first came out ('73) Just about wore the grooves out on it!

RIP big guy...
