Default New Eagles Concert to air 7/5 on ESPN

The Eagles Live at the Forum MMXVIII will air on ESPN at 8pm on Sunday, July 5th. This concert was shot in September of 2018 with 4k cameras and features Vince Gill and Deacon Frey. Hate 'em if you will but they make good music.

It's not on my cable guide yet.

I got the email about that but can't get ESPN. I did see the show live when they were over here last year and can say it will be well worth watching. Watching Deacon Frey was like having his father from the seventies on stage. Very moving and a bit surreal. A must for any Eagles fan.

Oh, yeah: Several versions of this will be available to purchase in October.

I know that Joe Walsh and Vince Gill are enough of a draw to make me put it on the DVR and the rest is cream.

ESPN + 2018 + Eagles = Super Bowl

(And yes, I clicked on the link and saw the Billboard announcement.)

Believe it or not, ESPN use to stand for the "Entertainment and Sports Network." Not much else to air!

Thank you for the announcement.

Am I missing something, some controversy? Why might people hate them and still appreciate their music?

There are a couple of controversies. Every time I have posted anything positive about the Eagles the posts have ended up in one both of these. First, the original Mk.I bunch including Leadon and Meisner verses the Mk.II lineup with Felder and Walsh. It can get ugly, ie. the Mk.II lineup wasn't the Eagles. Acoustic people tend to prefer the Mk.I lineup. Then there's the whole Don Felder out on his ear thing which dramatically polarized the Eagles crowd to the tune of, "I wouldn't give a hoot for anyone who would work with Henley and Frey after that." Despite Walsh describing himself as neutral "Switzerland" in the band from the moment he put his foot in the room, after the Felder split I get the "Don't give a hoot for anyone who will continue to work with Henley and Frey," about him as well. So, there you go.

I'm not exactly Switzerland but I like Walsh and Vince Gill and much of the Eagles music and listen with my eyes open.

Offspring of well known musicians...

Ringo Starr's son plays some amazingly good (Moon-like) drums for the Who.

John Bonham's kid did extremely well at filling the elusive "pocket" with Zep.

Various Allman Bros offspring? Yup!

Jacob Dylan. Yes!

Dweezil Zappa? Smokin' player.

Grenn Frey's son as an Eagle? Why not? And Vince Gill is a stunningly fine player/singer, actually a very intuitive choice IMHO, and probably capable of filling any pair of shoes in that extremely accomplished band.

So, will the music be well-written and performed impeccably? Probably.

Based on what one knows/believes about these decades-long celebrity musicians, one can pick "sides" if one must. I remain blissfully uninformed and merely appreciative of good music.

Saw them a month later, been a fan forever but first time live. My wife’s favorite band. Vince killed it. Everybody gets a chance to shine, it is a long show. Lots of Joe solos. Henley did not dominate things as I guessed he would. Tim’s voice has held up very well. Deacon only sings a couple tunes but was very well received. Vince did the Glenn and Randy vocals for the most part. Thanks for the heads up Bob!
