Default Room for 1 more pedal, suggestions please

Hi all,

I have space on my board for one pedals preferably no larger than a Boss size. I play mostly reggae and so my goal is typically to add nice sounds to my clean guitar tone. My board now is geared for funk style tones. I don’t need any OD pedals. If anything I’m thinking of a flanger but am curious if there’s other cool sounding pedals that others would suggest.

My chain now is: Wah>phaser>envelope filter>EH B9 organ pedal>delay>? Although I’ll most likely put it right before that the way the delay will be my last and suggestions out there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Love my Stereo Electric Mistress. Flanger and Chorus. Using a tiny amount of both adds almost a rotating sound. You can get some interesting stuff from freezing the flange at any place.

Don’t know if you have need for an octave but I also really dig my Micro POG. You can simulate a 12 string with it, and many musicians use it live where guitar was double tracked in the studio. Or you can simulate a bass by turning the octave down and cutting the dry signal. Crank everything and it gets into church organ territory.

An EQ pedal might help. Or a chorus pedal. Or another delay pedal that you can preset to another tempo. Personally I only do reggae with a looper.

You definitely got the reggae set up going already. A phaser imo is close enough to a flanger that it's not necessary but it's a good choice. I do like the idea of the POG too or a micro synth to get some far out noises but those are probably too big.

If it were me I'd get a compressor.

Compressor pedal.

Can add a twangy sound at the front end.

Yes, I would put a compressor in there...first in line so it doesn't compress noise from the others, raising the noise floor. Makes all the difference in the world for clean tones. I'm currently using a Boss CS-3 that I've had for 20 years....always on.

MXR 10-band eq. Beware, it's lit up light a spaceship. Enjoy the tone shaping.

Reverb! (That's if the amp doesn't have it).

Numero Uno for me!

I've always liked this guy's reggae tone. Lots of pedal choices here...

Thanks guys. Very good suggestions. I do have reverb and OD on my amp. I’ve also always thought flanger sounds too similar to the phaser but that electric mistress looks very interesting and possibly the one. My B9 pedals has an octave setting which is cool. Thanks all!

Possibly consider a chorus pedal such as the BOSS CH-3. The Mistress would be another good choice.

For a reverb pedal the Digitech Polara pedal gets great reviews and is a reasonable price. The reverbs were developed by Lexicon who are well known for their quality studio reverb processors.

How about a tuner? I use a TU-2 I've had for years and years now. It's always helped me to keep my guitar in nearly perfect tuning.

Default Speaking of tuners...

https://www.musiciansfriend.com/acce...tuner&index=13

For the price of the tuner, you also get a power supply good for 8 pedals, and 12 teal pearloid guitar picks...
