Emerald pointy (metal) headstock: Deal breaker?
I wish emerald had a more traditional vintage looking headstock rather than the current heavy metal looking headstock.
Maybe having having a choice option? Vintage/Radical At least for the popular X20 model. |

I think Emerald has one of the nicest looking headstocks in acoustic guitar lutherie. If you look at any guitar in any of their series you will see that the lines are well thought out, they compliment the graceful contours of the body. It took some time for Emerald's designs to grow on me but now I get it. YMMV.

There already is another option. You can custom order a slotted headstock.

Don’t tell PRS it’s a “metal” headstock design.

I don't think of their headstock as 'heavy metal' but I agree it's very unique. But so is the rest of the guitar so it works for me. That said, and as others have weighed in, you can custom order just about anything. But you'll have to pay a price for it, literally!

It never occurred to me to think of it as ‘metal’. I think it complements the guitar’s overall aesthetics very well - but everyone’s taste is different.
I just looked through several pages of custom Emeralds, and couldn’t find a single one without either the standard or slotted headstock - which might suggest that there’s not a lot of demand for something more traditional.

The contours of Emerald guitars make them so comfortable to play that the headstock design would be the last thing on the minds of most players....

I find it hard to clip a tuner to, especially the X-7.

With five Emerald's in the house now and a custom X20 on the way, clearly the head stock shape does not bother me. I chose them for player comfort, great tone, then for the durability and lack of worry that comes with CF. For the record, I also have no issues with the Seagull head stock design, which apparently drives some people crazy. That shape is intended to provide straighter string pull to minimize tuning issues. I suspect that the Emerald shape does the same, but don't know if that was the intent.

Breedlove's headstock shape is specifically for string placement and tuning reliability. I'd imagine that's what they are doing too.

As much as I find the sound hole hard on my Martin trained eyes, the headstock looks quite good to me. I guess that is unexplainable...

I actually don't think of the headstocks of guitars unless I'm trying to slide a tuner over one. I think their headstock looks pretty nice actually now that you drew my attention to it.

I think the Emerald headstocks fit the modern (not metal) design of the guitar. Less symmetrical, more ergonomically designed. I was not a fan of the offset soundhole until I tried one. I get it - the whole design makes sense.

I've never been a fan of the Emerald headstock design. Nothing wrong with it, just not my taste.they did have a series of travel size dreadnought guitars a few years ago with a different headstock that I really liked. I'm sure there are pictures of it out there somewhere.
