Default anyone own a Alvarez/Yairi CYM95?

I have a chance to buy one, price is reasonable, original owner, 5 years old, reviews I've read give it high marks. Right in the price range of where I want to spend.

This model has all solid woods, cedar top/rosewood back/sides.

Anyone with prior experience or ownership of this model?

thanks
d

Not that model, but really liked the CY140 I used to have.

I've owned a few Yairi's, and still have my grandfather's CY116. The CYM95 was their top of the line at one time, and is a great instrument. Mint value tops out around $1200. With the right price, I'd snatch it up with no hesitation.

I have owned Yairi's probably for the best part of 10 years, working my way up the ladder from a CY116 until I bought the CYM95 about 5 years ago. Saw it on ebay, @$1100. It didn't sell, offered him $800 and he accepted. Great guitar.

They are good. However on the one I had the top E was very close to the edge of the fingerboard so it might be worth checking that out.

Daryl,
There's a Kohno for sale on the forum here. I'd take a serious look at it first. Kohno is often considered as having been Japan's best luthier.

Ditto this. I've always been a Yairi fan, but I'd take a Kohno over a Yairi in a heartbeat.

I'd a supposedly top of the line Yairi 25 years ago, paid like $800 for it with case, it was supposedly all solid wood. But when my now ex-wife smashed it in a fit of rage, that's when I found out the back and sides were plywood. But the guitar was okay, although I should have gotten that old Martin I saw, although that witch would've smashed that one.

I have two Yairi and LOVE them. My go to is CY 140- CE...not many of them made and it's a winner. My Yairi are all nylon due to arthritis in hands.

Keep on pickin'
