Thanks Woody, it’s a fun build. I do another round of pics when it’s all strung up.
Thanks for commenting,

Default Back to Ovangkul

here we're back to the Ovangkol Josie. The headstock back plate is more of the figured Macassar Ebony. Here you can also see the fret board being glued up:

Here under all those clamps is the Ovangkol head plate:

Tomorrow the neck will be ready to carve!

Thanks for following along,
Mark

I strung up the Maple Josie today and did an initial set up. Here are a few more pictures with strings on and a few to show details. Pretty self explanatory. You can tell the client and I both like Cocobolo and Maple

Now, I get to play it for a week before final set up and shipment!

Thanks for viewing,

Mark

Hi Steve, Yes that is a satin finish on the neck. They seem to be getting more and more popular. Once someone tries one they usually prefer them.

Thanks Nemoman, This guitar started out as a copy of another maple guitar I made from a sister set. It kinda grew from there.

I'm curious, has the strap button location ever caused an issue with players who use this portion of the neck? Kind of seems counter-intuitive to having a cutaway there.

Hi Zandit75, I actually set the position of this strap button to keep it out of the way for players who use this portion of the neck. When playing up around the 12th fret and above the strap buttons tends to fall into the hollow of the frethand’s palm. Putting a facet into the body there creates additional clearance as opppsed to having the button sticking out of the heal and hitting the side of your hand. Anyway, it’s there to get it out of the way.

A-MA-ZING level of detail, Mark!
To be honest, my preference always goes to a more simple pattern and details, but on this one you've gone really far..
Impressive and inspiring

Thanks Quentin, There is a lot of room for a lot of details on a guitar!

Default Ovangkul Josie snall jumbo

Here is a picture of the headstock coming together for the Ovangkol Josie small jumbo. I like how the antique gold Gotoh tuner go with the color of this wood!

I'll cleaning up this guitar adding the final touches so it will be ready for finish next week.

Thanks for viewing!

All I can say is, I might as well quit building guitars and take up Morris Dancing. Lol. Russ Parker
