How many of you can play all the solos for Aimee by Pure Prairie League?
Just curious... I really like this song and am learning the solos. The chords are not difficult, but the solos are a challenge, mostly I think b/c of the tempo.
When I can play that song complete, I will say I'm not a "beginner" any more. |

I've never learned them note for note, but most of the parts aren't too difficult. But they're great, and a really nice example of playing changes, not just noodling in the key of the tune.
Great song, thanks for reminding me of it. |

Tough to keep up with Vince Gill.

I used to play that with a band, and learned the solos note for note, but most of the time I would take some liberties with it.

…those relatively simple licks that Vince plays are in my mind the backbone/creeping motion of country guitar playing…..learn to play those and you’re on way to being a bonafide country picker….just keep listening to them until you get the rhythmic feel embedded into your DNA….it’s like riding a bike….once you get it you’ll never lose it….

Loved PPL especially their first two albums, but never thought to cover any of their songs, and I don't ever try to copy other peoples solo breaks.

I've never played them but... I'm sitting here in the studio so I brought out the guitar and put on the song. I got the frameworks of the solos down in a couple of minutes. If a client came in and said, "Okay we're doing Aimee. You've got the leads." I'd be fine.

That tune was pre-Gill. I believe the guitarist and writer was Craig Fuller.

Craig Fuller (later of Little Feat) played just about all of the electric lead, but some acoustic leads from the first two albums may have been George Ed Powell, no slouch either.

Their first album may not be in my all-time top 10, but it is definitely lurking on the edge of it. Country rock at it's finest! I wore it out and had to purchase it a few times until the dawn of the digital age. "Babe's done got himself down again"

This ^^^^. it's a part of our current set list but frankly I have no idea how close my leads are to the original
