Below is my submission to the Delcamp exam.

I think I can say, with almost full certainty, that I'll not be playing this song in a long, long while By next week, I'll have probabl forgotten it.

Out of curiosity, I looked up my last year's exam piece (also a dance: a waltz in G major):

Although my last year's peice was tenichally easier, I played it with more nuance for the Waltz, which I feel is missing in my performance of this year's Pavane.

The biggest factor I can think of that helped last year was the incredible amouont of practice I put into the guitar. I'd play the guitar for an hour everyday, even if it's just noodling around. Sometimes, I miss that good old time where the guitar is so new and fresh and that I just couldn't get enough of it.

One of the hardest things about self-teaching is deciding when to pass/fail myself.

I'm currently debating whether to continue Delcamp D03 or taking in-person lessons. I worry about burning out if I take in-person lessons, but I also don't want to not have a real guitar teacher for too long. Currently, I'm leaning to in-person lessons.

I'm also thinking about quitting the classical guitar altogether because I just don't see much point in learning it. I'm very much an acoustic guitar person. So, I'm currently offically confused
Hi Jack,
Congratulations on your submittals. That was the best version of the Pavane that you posted here. I saw lots of good improvements.
I hope you don't give up on the classical guitar, and I heartily recommend in-person lessons with a teacher, even if it's just a few. Very much worth the investment.
And just because you play some classical doesn't mean you can't play anything else you want on your other acoustic. Or electric. They're not mutually exclusive activities!
Lastly, you have demonstrated in this thread a lot of positives about your character, especially a great attitude towards learning and improving. Those will serve you well, no matter what style of guitar you play.
Sure, you can let go of the Pavane now, finally. You deserve a break. But if you ever go back to it, long after you've forgotten it, I guarantee you it will be a lot easier for you to play. You'll breeze right through it!

Hi Andre,

I plan to get a teacher; probably after summer when the kids are back in school. I think, after a year off from lessons and developing as a guitarist, I can really use it at this time.

Once a while, I get the urge to quit classical guitar mainly because I can't see the point of it (I'll never be able to perform publicly on merit on the classical guitar because I just don't have the years needed). However, it is fun to have a quiet instrument that I can play at nights.

Thanks.

Hi,

I want to conclude this Thread with a final post of my exam results and a final thanks to everybody's support. Here's the result:

***
Mention Fairly good

Some clashes that penalize the fluidity of the rhythm, as well as the homogeneity of the sound.

The tempo is good, the bass has a nice presence, but it lacks nuances. The final agreement is a bit shortened.
***

It is a result I expected in my prior post, https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...7&postcount=75.

I'm very happy with this result; it's also good to get back an expected exam result. I'm also very certain that without this Thread, I would have put in much less practice time. You've really motivated me to move past a low-point in my guitar-practice life

Since this thread, I feel that I've been re-energized. I've been putting in much more practice time than the months prior to this Thread. I think I've moved past a guitar burnout phase and into a new phase of growth.

Thank you!!

That's great Jack, I'm happy to see that you are re-energized. You really came a long way in those 20 days!

Hi Berry,

Thanks ! You've been a big help. BTW, Delcamp just changed it's online guitar class format. The new format is that ANYBODY can post a performance and receive feedback. No more registering as students, etc. Although it wasn't said, I'd stick with the Delcamp curriculum pieces because the tutors/moderators/etc. are very well versed in them to give good feedback.

If anybody feels the need to get motivated to practice, I'd highly recommend starting a thread like this one. It's a bit of a selfish thread, I know; but I also think it can be entertaining for people based on the view count.

Before this thread, my practice was averaging about 30 minutes/week (actually, that's both practice + playing time). After this thread, my practice is up to 1hr/week. That's doubled. I can't say exactly why it worked for me; if I had to guess, I'd say maybe just the act of making the practices public gave it some excitement (and exciting stuff is more fun). I don't know; but it works.

Youtube is free; your cellphone is free (although I just use my webcam); and normally, my pracitce vidoes finish uploading before I finish typing the jounral entries, i.e. no wasted time. I'd love to do another of this kind of thread; but I feel I need give others a chance too.
