I'm always struck by how many guitar players only take traditional designs seriously. Don't get me wrong, I love the traditional designs as much as anyone, and everything I own is traditionally inspired. But I have been looking for something to use in my solo gigs that is more versatile and that I can play more 'electric' type stuff on.

I played a Martin SC-13E tonight and was blown away because it was exactly what I needed. Super easy playability, incredible upper fret access and sounded great. I get that it's for a specific player need, but man, it nails it. And I don't understand people bagging on genuine innovation. I for one, am thrilled they offer it and happily bought it.

This is how I feel, too. Imagine if the AGF had been around in 1934: “Ewwww! What did they do to that poor guitar’s upper bout?!? Who will ever buy a guitar with its neck sticking out like that! I’tll never sell. Guess it’s gonna be one of those newfangled J-35s for me.” Happy that traditional and new models are available.

I would focus on the word "big". I suspect the new offset construction in a larger body size.

We'd all be hanging out, "Can't wait for some decent post-war guitars."

To me, a huge Martin fan for its heritage, I'd prefer they made ONE line, with the very best construction, woods, bracing, etc. I know that isn't likely for Martin's required output, but you'd get the same catalog as the 30s.

No more Deluxe, Standard, Authentics, customs, etc. Charge as needed. Economies of scale for those few models cold keep prices down.
If I'm getting this right, you want martin to drop all the different models at different price ranges and only sell top of the line guitars?

One dread, one J, one 000, one OM? Is that it?

Martin, on a good year, sells around 100,000 guitars. You wrote that the ''economics of scale'' would bring the price down, but how many of these ''very best'' guitars are they going to have to sell to make up for all the less expensive one that they no longer sell, and what will they cost?

I'm with Robin regarding the cutbacks, er, I mean cutaways.
I’m totally in Andy’s and Robin’s camp. Wonky-looking guitars with bits of the body cut off don’t appeal AFAIC.

The usual disclaimers apply......IMHO, YMMV etc.

Gosh darn it. Why can't everybody just play the same guitars that my great grandfather did!

And the same music too!

Things just haven't been the same since the Four Moptops showed up on the Ed Whatshisname Show.

And don't get me started about Leo Fender and Les Paul!

Now get off my lawn!!!!!!!!

I live in Pennsylvania so I know about this…

It’s double topped, torrified, built in reverb (Yamaha licensed), with fan frets, an arm bevel, adjustable neck width, locking tuners, sound port and sustainable carbon fiber.

You’re welcome.

I was thinking the same thing, maybe a new body size (~jumbo-ish) or a cutaway on the M36/0000.

I've been looking at Fender Acoustasonic Tele's for the same reasons.

Yeah...it's a D-28-GO! (whoops...forgot "cutaway"?)

Yeah, this is what I think too, or maybe a Mahogany version.

Well pardon me for having the audacity to actually have an opinion. You do understand what ‘IMHO’ and ‘YMMV’ mean, don’t you? Or perhaps you didn’t notice that disclaimer because you were in such a rush to criticise me for daring to have my own personal preferences?
