FWIW, I ordered one set of strings and an individual string last night, and had it shipped today. I’ve ordered from them a number of times, and only once did they not ship within 24 hours.

 You guys don't know how good you've got it. I started using strings and beyond when living in LA, and was always amazed how quickly things showed up (strings or otherwise). Now back in Australia, I never expect anything in a couple of days....Australia post is lousy for speed. I still use them as even with shipping, it works out cheaper if I purchase several sets at a time. Like others, I stock up. If it's an emergency I'll run out to a local store, but like others, I tend to bulk purchase in anticipation of my needs.

The thing I’ve done is order well before I need.
I keep enough strings on hand to string all seven of my guitars. If I have less than seven sets on hand, I order. So, I suppose I have strings lying about innmy toolbox. But I’m never in a position that I have to wait for Strings I need right now. The only time it’s ever bitten me in the butt was when I was trying to find the set my Taylor 12 string liked beat. When I was ready to order more, they have them up on the website, but they’ve been out of stock for a couple of years.

I have never had any problem whatsoever with Strings & Beyond ... they are a great resource. My oly "gripe" is that since I live in North Carolina, I end up having to pay tax while most of you avoid it
