Is there a software to write tabs?
Hi everyone.
I didn't find any software (freeware!!?) i could use to make tabs of my songs. I know that you can do that with guitar pro but i'm just looking for something showing a sreen with lines to be completed with numbers!!! ....does it exist? Sometimes i use....."paint" to do that but it takes too much time... Any idea? Thks a lot. |

I second the vote for Tabledit. I used the free version for awhile, and then upgraded to the one-time-low-pay version. It is worth it and Keith Saturn is very kind and helpful there.

I tend to write is standard notation in Finale. The cool thing about this software, and others like it, is that you can drag and drop the notation onto a separate tab stave and... hey presto! Instant tab. Of course, you have to know how to write music to do this...

Power-tab is probably the most popular freeware for tab editing. However, after trying it, and buying guitar pro5- I actually find I use finale notepad (also free!)
the most. It won't translate standard notation to tab (nor vice-versa)- but it will let you mix standard notation with tab notation (you simply have to enter the tab notation manually). http://www.finalemusic.com/notepad/

If you don't know how to write music, you can also do the tab first and use the drag and drop feature to create instant standard notation. Of course, you need to be able to indicate the time value of notes in the tab for this to work--and if you can do that, chances are pretty good you'll find it easier to work with the notation first. Finale is way more than what a-coustica seems to want, though (it sounds like he just wants to create blank tab?)... but for print-ready transcriptions, it's hard to beat. |
