Cool Your Love Is Forever by George Harrison [DADF#AD]

Your Love Is Forever by George Harrison [DADF#AD]

The altered tuning that Harrison uses on this tune: DADF#AD is a tried and true tuning. One easy way into this altered tuning is to see that the open strings and all bar chords across the same fret produce a major triad. Therefore open would be D, 5th fret: G, 7th fret A, 10th fret C. He uses all of these in this song. So far so good for the first shape he utilizes.

Now play an E7 shape [as it would appear in standard tuning] at the 2nd fret: 6th string open, 5th string 2nd fret, 4th string open, 3rd string 1st fret, 2nd & 1st strings open. This shape in this tuning produces a sus 2 chord, in this position a Gsus2 [from low to high: DGDGAD]. This G chord in relation to the open strings is a 4th higher than the D chord {DEF#G=1234]. Therefore when you move it up the neck it's relative.

In this song Harrison uses the shape fingered at the 2nd fret [as mentioned above] and he also
uses it above a full bar across all strings @ the 5th fret [Csus2], 7th fret [Dsus2] as well as the 10th fret [Fsus2].

These two shapes plus the harmonics that Harrison is playing across all 6 strings at the 5th, 7th, and 12th frets [at the 0:18, 0:58, & 2:07 second cues in the song] are predominantly the fingerings for this piece.

Also whenever he returns to the D Major 7 chords we have several options. I suggest locating several roots [D] and play with the natural sounds of the open strings plus the addition of the major 7th: C# which lives 1 fret below any of these roots. To my ear though his fingering seems to be taking place at the 7th fret, moving through the barre and Dsus2 chord.

Note:
'-' = 1 bar of 4/4

That's awesome!! Thank you very much!!

Can you e-mail that aligned version to:

[email protected] ?

Thanks for taking the time.
I know you wouldn't do it for just
any song, but this song is special.
You could sing it in Church because it's very spiritual too.

That's why I love George so much.

Another great song on that album is:

Dark Sweet Lady

But I know how to play that one.
It's very simple.

Thanks again, I'm eternally grateful, God Bless...

Default Format Update

Note: I have added ellipses (......) in order to compensate for chords being compressed to the left margin. This is a cleaner post for having done so. Enjoy it.
