I love QSC but they are pricey and a lot more speaker than I need. I'd go for the Yamaha DBR10 for small gigs or monitors or the DBR12 if you need more power and projection.

Personally i would go with the k10.
The bose s1 is nice but a bit underpowered. if you dont think youll ever play for more than 25 people in a quiet room than ok. Eae makes nice battery powered stuff as well. For now if its small intimate settings then just one k10 would suffice. You could purchase a second later. I also have a yorkville nx10c that is nice small 10 that can be mounted array style (through the pole mounting) It coaxial so the tweeter is in the center of the woofer. http://yorkville.com/loudspeakers/nx/product/nx10c/ its in your price point.. makes a good monitor as well. For what its worth i a/b the dbr10 and a k10 in the store and hands down the qsc wins. Last edited by varmonter; 01-06-2019 at 07:29 AM. |

I'd do a QSC Quickmix and an LD Systems Maui 5 myself. I have two setups like that; one here in the states and one in Mexico. Never heard a better acoustic tone.

A word of advice. Once you have your short list of speakers you can check resale value on eBay. Go with speakers that will hold their value well in case you decide to sell/upgrade down the road.
The HK Audio portable speaker systems are competitive with Bose, etc. IMHO the sound is better and they are worth considering. A while back I was PA shopping and it came down to a Bose system or an HK Nano 608i. I went with the Nano 608i and have had no regrets. |

Being that you're in Canada, Yorkville Sound (Traynor) offers powered speakers in your stated budget.

Well, turns out I just bought a pair of QSC CP8s. Got them from some DJ type guy who bought them new and kind of immediately upgraded to this huge RCF system. Anyway, got the two for much less than new and paid no tax so I am a VERY happy camper right now.
