Default Question about performing groups.

Hope this is the correct forum but I have been watching some country western groups on RFD-TV and I noticed most of them have a unit in at least one ear like a hearing aid. I know that is not what it is but.

Some of the Blue Grass band members are using them and they play accoustic.

What are they hearing and why?
Thanks.

In-ear-monitors. Most professional players use this type of system these days vs. the old-school stage floor V-wedges. It's much easier to dial in whatever each player wants to hear while isolating what they don't want to hear.
